Jennings Wright Hi - I have a Christian romance coming out next month called Undaunted Love. It's set in the South during the Civil War and Reconstruction. Here's the back cover blurb:

Hugh Byrd, the cold, ambitious patriarch of Byrd's Creek, is used to getting what he wants. And what he wants is the Colton's prime land, and the destruction of the Colton family. What he doesn't count on is his own daughter falling in love with Rafe Colton.

Ripped apart by the Civil War, the young couple must find a way to keep their secret love alive. The end of the War should mean a joyous reconciliation, but when Rafe is accused of a terrible crime, he runs away, leaving Livvie behind once again. Will this finally break their bond, or will their love survive?

A sweeping romance set in the South, Undaunted Love is a tale of faith, hope, patience and the redemption of God's love.

I'll post a link when it's out - hope you'll check it out!

David Alderman David Alderman Hi everyone! My name is David N. Alderman, and I am a self-published author. I do write young adult scifi/fantasy, but at the moment I am focusing on my Black Earth series which is what I would call edgy Christian speculative fiction - in general terms, science fiction/fantasy/horror/supernatural fiction with Christian themes and edgy content, such as sexual themes, language, drug use, and violence. It's not your typical Christian fiction, but there is an audience out there (and authors) for it.

Here are the books in my Black Earth series. Three are published, the fourth - and final - will be released this November.

Black Earth End of the Innocence (Black Earth, #1) by David N. Alderman
Black Earth The Broken Daisy (Black Earth, #2) by David N. Alderman
Black Earth Dark Masquerade (Black Earth, #3) by David N. Alderman

Laurel Garver Hello! Great to be here.

I am a self-published author of a YA edgy inspirational novel, Never Gone, about grief, faith and finding love when all seems lost. (By edgy, I mean it doesn't fit all the CBA rules; it's very clean by secular press standards.)

I write stories that delve into the hard places where heart and soul are tested and growing up truly begins.

Here's my back cover blurb:
Days after her father’s death, fifteen-year-old Dani Deane begins seeing him all around New York — wading through discarded sketches in her room, roaming the halls at church, socializing at his post-funeral reception. Is grief making her crazy? Or could her dad really be lingering between this world and the next, trying to contact her?

Dani desperately longs for his help. Without him keeping the peace, Dani’s relationship with her mother is deteriorating fast. Soon Mum ships her off to rural England with Dad’s relatives for a visit that Dani fears will become a permanent stay. But she won’t let her arty, urban life slip away without a fight, especially when daily phone calls with her lab partner Theo become her lifeline.

To find her way home, Dani must somehow reconnect with Mum. But as she seeks advice from relatives and insights from old letters, she uncovers family secrets that shake her to the core. Convinced that Dad’s ghost alone can help her, she sets out on a dangerous journey to contact him one last time.

"Never Gone is a ghost story for a new generation – a twisty journey through a young girl's battle with death, grief, and the discovery of family secrets that threaten to undo her world. Garver tackles difficult subjects with depth and grace, weaving the complexities of faith with the complexities of growing up." --Heidi Willis, author of Some Kind of Normal

Shawn Mcnamara Hello brothers and sisters. My name is Shawn McNamara (no I am not the Producer of the movie Hop) and I'm the author of 'Encourageman'. I facilitated an online email ministry for a few years that shared my life, all my 'mistakes' and stupid/selfish choices (many made more than once), only now through the new eyes of a Christ follower. The world tells us that our pasts define us, giving us little hope for change, betterment, or simply a way out. ENCOURAGEMAN! I believe in Romans 8:28 (and we know thatv in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose). He has given me the way and has changed my ways. I say our pasts don't define us, they design us... And we are given the opportunity to be heroes in the lives of others by giving it back. Sarah Norkus Hi, my name is Sarah Norkus and right now I am writing what I term YA Christian Fiction genre soup. The first book in my YA trilogy, The Secret Diary of Sarah Chamberlain, published by AMG is a historical fiction/fantasy/suspense/murder mystery.I guess I write like I eat. I don't want a plain hamburger, but one with lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, cheese and onions. Okay, maybe not the onions. The three books are centered around a fifteen year old girl named Emily Grace. In the first book, she finds an old diary and goes back in time to try to prevent a murder. The books are set during the Civil War Era, just before the Revolutionary War and the Salem Witch Trials. I love to read all types of genre.

Jacci Richard wrote: "Does Christian Fiction have to include evangelical overtones, or just no sex or cursing?"

If you have no cursing or sex, it's a book with "Christian Sensibilities," but if you wanted to get published with a Christian publisher it has to have evangelical overtones. My books are not Christian enough for Christian publishers but...I'm okay with that. :)

message 16: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Norkus Hi Jacci,

I don't which Christian publishers you are referring to, but that hasn't been my experience. My publisher is AMG and the two books under contract with them don't have evengelical overtones, just a story about a fifteen year old girl who feels that God has abandoned her when things go wrong in her life. Keep looking.

Julieanne Hello!
So nice to find a group of likeminded writers. Sometimes I feel like I don't fit in the YA world, because my characters aren't edgy or worldly enough. And then, because there is an element of fantasy or paranormal to my writing, there are some in the Christian community that can't get past it, either.

My first novel, "Uprooted" sprung from a need to have entertaining writing for the YA audience that presented different sets of ideals...theologically informed fiction. It deals with racism, forgiveness, the concept of community, and discovering the true gifts we have been given. Uprooted (Book 1) by Julieanne Riddle

Grace and peace,

Andrew Marr I happen to be a Benedictine monk in the Episcopal Church & I have written on Benedictine spirituality, but fantasy literature is a lifelong interest of mine & I have published three collections of fantasy short stories aimed at young readers as well as older ones.

The first is a collection of Christmas stories called "Born in the Darkest Time of Year." A choirboy, in two different stories, has to save Christmas twice. A boy desperately wants a unicorn for Christmas, and so it goes.

Then I published "Creatures We Dream of Knowing" where, in each story, a young protagonist encounters one or more allegedly legendary creatures. In each story, personal issues are entwined with the enchantment of these creatures.

Most recently, I published "From Beyond to Here: Merendael's Gift and Other Stories." "Merendael's Gift" is close to novella length, a story that begins when a boy suddenly encounters an incredibly strange creature on the way to school, a creature who wishes to give a gift. Many of the stories that follow are ghost stories that explore themes of redemption from hurt and trauma.

You can look up these titles here on GoodReads or you can look up my blog called "Imaginary Visions of True Peace" at http://andrewmarrosb.wordpress.com Many of my blog entries have to do with spirituality & peace but I also have entries on fantasy fiction which can be looked up. On the pages for each book on the blog site are favorable reviews from Kirkus & I have also posted a sample story from each of these collections.

If what I have written here suggests some fun reading for yourselves and/or the young people in your lives, please check all of these out. Feedback on these stories would be very welcome.

Patricia Reding Hi. I am Patricia Reding/aka Trish. My first book came out this past week. I am not altogether sure how to classify Oathtaker. In the Christian fantasy I've read, I have found that much much of it focuses on the story of a Savior and of redemption. A great story. No--the greatest story. But, that is not the story that I wrote. Still, I wanted to create a world with ideals and heroes and principles.

Sign up for a giveaway running to April 12!

So, here is a little something about it:

An Oath Sworn.

A Struggle Engaged.

A Sacrifice Required.

When Mara, a trained Oathtaker, is drawn by the scent of the Select to battle beasts of the underworld summoned by powers of evil to destroy the guardians of life, she swears an oath for the protection of her charge.

Armed with a unique weapon, her attendant magic and that of her Oathtaker cohorts, the knowledge of ancients and the assistance of a spymaster, Mara seeks safety for her charge from one who would end Oosa’s rightful line of rule and from assassins who endeavor to bring ruin to the land.

As Mara puzzles to decipher ancient prophecy concerning her charge, as she is haunted with memories of her own past failings, she discovers the price her oath will exact.

To renounce her word would be treasonous; to fail, ruinous; to persevere, tortuous.

Abiding by an oath requires sacrifice.

What would you give up to honor your word?

Oathtaker by Patricia Reding

Emily Looking for a fast-paced read, real, but soaked in spiritual truths?Church Bound: A Bride in Fake Diamonds is set in romantic Germany, and is blended with humor and adventure. Here's an excerpt:

“Kendra,” I abruptly switched the subject. “Why does a girl practically have to give the Gettyburg Address of Chastity the minute a guy pays her the least amount of attention?”
“Yeah, I know what you mean,” Kendra messaged me back, her reply zipping halfway around the globe in a single second. “And you make a fool of yourself if you try to set boundaries and he says all he ever was looking for was a friendship.”
“Exactly. And I guess there’s an off chance some guy really does just want to pal around and that’s it. Unlikely, but vaguely possible.”
“What brought this to mind?”
“I’ve been having such a blast here. Being in this exotic land where there’s something so strangely familiar about it all. Taking a Formula One style joyride on the Autobahn. Almost losing my life on a horse. Going out to a Biergarten afterward and just savoring the breezes and the sights and the funky food. And, the fact that my companion for all this just happened to be a hot guy did not detract from the experience.”
“Oh. Do you have feelings for him?”
“Eh, feelings schmeelings. He’s handsome and entertaining and there isn’t a girly thing about him. But whatever that amounts to, I’ll get past it because I’m leaving here in five days. But I’m having such a good time. I want to have fun. I can hardly turn down all these experiences with a ‘No, thanks. You might hit on me.’ And last night when he walked me back to my dorm, he did plant one on me.”
“Molly–”
“A little cultural exchange,” I wrote.
[Pause]
“So something is expected from me,” I continued, typing fast to get the frustration out. “And I’ve just been trying to dodge it as long as I can. But it’s really annoying that a girl constantly finds herself in this position. Like the fun is over before it’s officially begun. What do you do with that?”

Philip Dodd Hello, everyone. As my book, Angel War, is rooted in The Bible, and could be classed under Bible based fiction, Christian fiction and angel fiction, I thought it would be good to mention it here. It was inspired by Chapter Twelve of the Book of Revelation, which speaks of the war in heaven, fought between Michael and his angels and the dragon and his angels. The Bible only says that the war happened, but not why, so I decided to write my own version of the events of the war and its aftermath. Its middle chapters deal with the life of Jesus on Earth, and includes my version of why he was betrayed by Judas and my own portrait of Mary Magdalene. I am very pleased to be a Goodreads Author with my own page for my book. It was published on Tuesday, 23rd, April, 2013 by Fast Print Publishing and has its own page on their online bookshop at www.fast-print.net and on Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/angel-war. In 2015, a modern day Philosopher's Stone is discovered by German scientists, during a time of economic crisis. The stone has shown to possess great power and can change the world for the better. But that's not the case: for this stone has the potential to destroy all of mankind and free Satan from his seal. Now it's up to six unlikely heroes, chosen by God, to save us all from utter doom. Using their elemental powers and a cool morpher, Rohan, James, Ariela, Reina, Tonya, and Navin must fight the many demons of Hell, who will stop at nothing to Satan rule the world.
