Agirlcandream Purple prose are not a favourite of mine. Better luck next read.

Lex Kent Agree about the purple prose, I can sure do without too. Great review!

Pat Cronin As an author I can tell you honestly that characters talk how they talk. Just because the average person or the people you know don’t have a certain cadence or vocab don’t discount that others might. Especially in the setting such as this one in a uppity girls school. As a reminder there are no new stories since the Greeks. And there are still many of us still in the closet. Sorry you didn’t enjoy this book but it was well written from an author that has written other great books. Even if you’re given an ARC is it necessary to be negative? Doesn’t society treat us down enough as it is?

Lex Kent Pat- I think you should erase your post, it's just bad form. Even with not liking purple pose, I was still considering reading this book. I had not even heard about it until Corries review so this review brought the book to my attention. But why would I want to read a book that I had to worry about other authors coming after me for my review?!? Does Macpherson know you are speaking for her and pushing other potential readers away?

Corrie is a long-time and respected reviewer of lesfic on Goodreads. I don't understand what you want from her. This is her review and her opinion of what she read. If she wasn't honest than other Goodreads members would not trust her opinion. And I mean really you are complaining about a review where she gave the book a 3 star rating. She didn't rate it 1 star and just said "this is sh*t", she wrote a thoughtful review with constructive criticism. If authors are going to complain about 3 star reviews now than I don't see how they have thick enough skin to be in the business.

Corrie I put time and effort in writing a review and I always try to be honest and respectful. This is my experience with the book, and your's may be different. I respect that too.

Corporate Slave I’m not sure how and when do we judge reviews ? With all due respect Pat, Corrie is a very reliable reviewer.. she is entitled to her opinion. I am wondering if she had given a 1 star to this book, what would be your reaction ? I get frustrated by authors who think they have the right to “judge” reviewers. I am sure your intentions are not bad, but it does unfortunately come across as judgement.

As you should know, every review is the opinion of a reader, and sometimes we readers don't click with a book. When we write a review we should always be honest and fair, and if you would have read any other reviews from Corrie, you would know that she always invest time and a lot of thoughts in her writing and always is fair. There are others who just click 1 star and say nothing or just a bad worded sentence.

Ardila Pat - A book review is basically the reader's opinion, so Corrie as well as everyone who actually reads the book are entitled to whatever star rating and review they want to give. As said by others, a lot of us value Corrie's reviews. They're honest and insightful, and it's clear that she doesn't write anything just for the spite of it or trying to be "negative" as you said.

Agirlcandream Corrie is a reviewer I respect thanks in part to her honesty but also for bringing my attention to books I might not know about. She is entitiled to her opinion as are you. Bashing a reviewer for a 3 star review is unneccessary.

Dee Well done, Pat. I just added this to my do not read list.

JulesGP Very thorough review, Corrie. I always appreciate thoughtful discussion and that’s why I love coming to GR. Rather than prefabricated spiel, there’s real talk about what worked and what did not in a story. This is what excites me as a reader and a reviewer. Yours especially, Corrie, are learning points so by all means, keep on with your insights.

Carrie Great review, Corrie. Keep providing your honest opinions. They are very valuable to me as I decide what books I want to spend time with.
