HR-ML Historical romance----

1) Erica Ridley
The Viscount's Christmas Temptation (Duke's of War #`1)
2) A Heartless Design ( Secrets of Zodiac #1) by Elizabeth Cole.

Links not working.

HappyBookWorm2020 OLT recommended this gothic romance: The Dead of Haggard Hall

Lots of ghosts, apparently and real mediums.

I may eventually start posting on romancebooklovers, but I don't see many conversations going on over there. While I do love having my book addiction fed with recommendations, I enjoy the conversations more. Am I looking in the wrong place there?

HappyBookWorm2020 I got this one yesterday by Donna Lea Simpson: The Debutante's Dilemma. She wrote one Regency romance that I have read several times: Lord St. Claire's Angel.

message 9: by HappyBookWorm2020 (last edited Nov 16, 2017 09:59PM) (new)

HappyBookWorm2020 This series has some admirers. The first book is 1.99 and the next two are 99 cents per book. I didn't get the impression you had to read them in order.

The Den of Iniquity 1.99

Into the Hall of Vice 99 cents

The Last Gamble 99 cents

I have so many good books to read, that unless the book is going to haunt me (and only another reader would understand that), I'm going to pass. Without the Amazon forums and all the recommendations, I'm buying less books but I still miss the book chatter. :(

message 10: by OLT (new)

OLT I downloaded that Den of Iniquity book some time ago and started reading but never finished. Can't quite remember why, but it probably was only haunting me in a bad way. And I'm with you about missing the book chatter on Amazon. It was much easier to get to there. I still find GR messy and overcrowded with discussions and discussion groups.

message 11: by HR-ML (new)

HR-ML Hi OLT----

Some discussions here have had no activity since 2010 or 2012!
Amazon forums were busier & weren't exclusively tied to a book
to start a discussion. Also we could skip a day or 2 & not feel like
we were on a reading treadmill. I'm not into a 'reading challenge'
or book club. If I wanted the latter, I'd go in person.

message 12: by OLT (new)

OLT Too bad there isn't an automatic removal of a discussion group after a certain number of years of inactivity. As it is, I understand that only the person who started up the group can deactivate it.

message 13: by HappyBookWorm2020 (last edited Nov 17, 2017 05:57PM) (new)

HappyBookWorm2020 I like the discussion we have here, and wish some of the other posters from Amazon would join us. I miss AGReads and Danker, for example.

Found this in my email list today: The Highlander's Accidental Marriage Callie Hutton, 99 cents. She also has two other books for 1.99.

If you like Amanda Scott, An Affair Of Honor 1.99, also on KU. I've never read anything by her, may try her out on KU.

HappyBookWorm2020 I visit romancebooklovers every day or so but one thing that I find hard to get used to is how big the boxes are for each individual post. I have just read that you click on 'quote' to respond to a post.

I also don't like too many discussions, and there are *many* and it is hard to find an active one. Which discussions do you like over there? The 'need a good historical romance' discussion was last visited on Nov 5. :(

HappyBookWorm2020 I haven't heard from suzmay for a while. She didn't line goodreads, and really liked librarything, if I am remembering correctly. She was cataloging her books over there.

HR-ML HBW2020------ On GR------

1) WORR main discussion & what does that mean? a few others

2) Historical Romance--- which authors have you fallen out of love with?,what are your HR pet peeves?

I retained the romance acronyms list (old Ammy). On WORR someone requested this. I added it on the WORR thread & got a slight push-back for my dislike of word f--k, which I considered a demeaning word created by men. Different strokes

2. Not a romance

B. Discussion by genre

C. General Discussion

It surprised me, generally speaking, that the HR threads were busier than the CR ones.

HappyBookWorm2020 HR-MovieLover wrote: "HBW-

Hi, MovieLover! No, librarything is free and really easy to sign up for. I did it last night. I'm windingroad over there, because so many people have cool names over there. They have games to play which is attractive. There was one where you took the word and reposted it, changing one letter. That suits my intellectual speed.

You can catalog books there, which is what suzmay is doing over there (haven't checked, she told me).

It seems an interesting and vibrant place to visit.

WORR is world of romance, rants and raves. On Amazon it was a very vibrant and active thread but seems to be limping along over here. I honestly think the multiple (many) discussions is bad for the group. I know once (in Amazon) we had a several day discussion on weight loss surgeries and techniques or diets we had used. It was interesting. This was also mixed in with pet stories and their health updates. I like chatter. Another day it may have been the best restaurants in a town that several members had visited, and then morphed over to good places to see.

Which authors have I fallen out of love with? Hmmm. These are romance but not necessarily historical. Christine Feehan - I loved her Dark series with a passion but she is now icky, and seems to include violence against women to a disturbing degree. The last book I enjoyed by her was Water Bound. The heroine was autistic. Another one is Karen Marie Moning. She lost me a few books into the Fever series, which I haven't bothered to finish. I loved most of her earlier Highlander series.

HR pet peeves? Amnesia. Highlanders except by KMM and Grace Burrowes. Spies, which is why I don't normally read Joanna Bourne although she is one of the best out there. Doormat heroines.

So, what about you? What are your pet peeves?

HappyBookWorm2020 Not all of these are historical - I also post free books/books on sale on another group so copied it over here. If you like paranormal or fantasy at all, I highly recommend RJ Blain. She wrote one about a young woman who turned into a unicorn and ate dangerous substances (to neutralize them) that was totally hysterical. Laughing is good in tough times. New Maiden Lane book! Yay! I couldn't click on this one fast enough.

HR-ML HBW-----

I gave a whole list of pet peeves on WORR on this forum.

I'm sorry this little group is so slow but I'm unclear what to do RE it. KG & I discussed this in an email, I want to give this little group 6 months or so to pick up b/c I'm not a quitter. My intent is not to compete with other groups here- everyone has choices. But I want a relaxed atmosphere here where we can get OT, and no one shames us for being OT.

GR seems to have too many threads,& repeats ideas from group to group. I've tried not to re-invent the wheel. What good are threads if people don't post on them?

I said on Samantha's forum that shutting down the forums felt like a funeral to me. Some people are lost forever to us ?

message 27: by HappyBookWorm2020 (last edited Nov 21, 2017 12:06AM) (new)

HappyBookWorm2020 MovieLover, the forums shutting down felt like a funeral to me too. I had hoped we would do better about keeping the group together, but that's up to each individual.

I think the places I've looked at all have that problem - too many discussions and many of them have limits on the type of discussion that takes place, which I think stifles conversation.

There really isn't anything we can do to make people participate, sadly. It's certainly not due to anything you've done. I think you started a nice little group here. I'll be here as long as you and/or OLT are here.

Where is kestergayle hanging out, by the way? Does she not like historical romance, or does she not like Goodreads? Has she said how her mom is doing?

I think this is a new Christmas collection:
Christmas in Duke Street Grace Burrowes, Shana Galen, Miranda Neville, Carolyn Jewel, 99 cents - hope I'm not wrong about that.

The Duke of Desire Darcy Burke, 99 cents

message 28: by HR-ML (new)

HR-ML Thanks for recs.

KG is on special FB romance invite-only forum. I was accepted by the forum but seldom use FB so was unclear what to do with what was sent me. So I opted out.

KG thought of doing a small group email only book forum. We'd hate to exclude people but it could get unwieldy if 100 wanted the group, especially if we somehow archived the content. KG is too busy at present. If she starts this, she'll let you know. Or get
the word out via me.

Roberta2 Hey guys. I am around. I haven't been active lately because I was in a cleaning frenzy. I am hosting Thanksgiving this year. I miss our old forum because I just went automatically to it every day. Maybe we should have one discussion thread here that is our go to thread? I feel we have lost so many people.

message 30: by OLT (new)

OLT You know what I miss about Amazon, in addition to those discussion groups like the one MovieLover started up and had so very many posters contributing? I also miss the discussions that could take place under individual reviews, when everybody who posted could track all the other posts. We had some interesting and lively discussions about the book being reviewed. Here on GR I just see people "liking" someone else's review and saying things like "lovely review", with only very superficial discussion of the book itself.

message 31: by OLT (new)

OLT Adding on another comment to say "yay", Georgette/Roberta is back!

HR-ML How would it be if we had book or other discussions under
"general discussion" topic here and free books under "free or
nearly free." This OK? I could consolidate other topics or just
keep them open for future posters. Thinking optimistic that
traffic will pick up here.

message 35: by HappyBookWorm2020 (last edited Nov 21, 2017 10:51PM) (new)

HappyBookWorm2020 Georgette/Roberta, yay! - so good to see you! You've been sorely missed.

I definitely agree about the main go to thread for discussion.

I drop into WORR..R? every day or two because it was one of the threads I visited daily on Amazon, but there are *so many discussions* - and most of them are dead. :(

message 36: by HappyBookWorm2020 (last edited Nov 21, 2017 10:52PM) (new)

HappyBookWorm2020 MovieLover, Yay for fewer discussions. I think the discussion thread and another thread for price drops and free books is plenty - and I think you said earlier that any genre for books is okay? Let me know if it isn't. Thank you again for making this nice place for us to come visit. I'm sure it takes more time and attention than we realize.

I also post regularly at the Reading, reading, etc. group and sometimes, I just copy the book links and paste them over here. I can always delete books that aren't HR.

I'm petty. Every time I buy a free book, it's revenge. It adds to their overhead and gives them no profit.

HappyBookWorm2020 OLT, you can still comment under reviews - I did so a few times last week, including one or two of yours, but you are right, I am seeing fewer comments.

I have started getting occasional emails from Amazon telling me that I have new updates, which are links to reviews by posters that I follow. If you click on the review title, it takes you right to it.
