Kenneth Chastain One of my hats during my career was that of a linguist. Dialects have always interested me.
In addition, I was extremely fortunate to have as my Omri in real life a wonderful "grandpa" who used a more traditional form of speech. Therefore, it seemed perfect in my mind to have the Omri of the book speak his dialect. In addition, sticking with the theme of the older generation helping the younger, having Omri speak his dialect while the Boy spoke the dialect of the present generation fit the symbolism.
