Steven, thanks for the thoughtful comments. Yes, I totally agree, first person is more fun to read and, frankly, I also prefer writing in it. But somewhere along the line I was told that to truly master writing well, one needed to give up the crutch of 1str person POV. (I now understand that advice was hokum, but it's too late for Lew.) Despite the POV shift, I worked hard to keep it as intimate as possible and hopefully succeeded. Thanks again.

You definitely succeeded and didn't lose much intimacy at all! I wouldn't change a thing, just a personal preference. Trying different POVs is something I play around with myself for that reason. Hope to see more from you :)
