Greg You're forgiven by now I'm sure, but thanks for the great story! Recently, I found on the shelves of my library a book that wasn't even in the library system but I'd been looking for it. (Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon). I was surprised, took it to the self-check lane, scanned it, it wouldn't 'read'. So I moved to a manned check-out lane. I was told the book wasn't in the system at all, but I could take it. So I did, and knowing it didn't really exist in that library system, put it in my condo library. It appears and disappears from there often. (less)

Greg But there is a certain book I was reading on a cruise ship, hadn't finished, and I was irritated at the cruise line so I packed the book by accident.

Alexander Smith Hannay is SCOTTISH, not English!

Richard Milton My sincere apologies to Major Hannay and to the Scottish people. In my haste to praise Buchan and his writing I have committed the unforgivable sin of "Andy Murrayism" - that is, unconsciously rebranding Scotland's many successful people as "English"!
