Jill Neimark I have a problem. My picture book, Forest Joy, was originally going to be published by Magination Press. it appeared in their catalog. However, we parted ways when it was still in the process of being illustrated. They reverted my rights back to me, and they never published it. I then found my own illustrator and self published it that took a few years.

However, the listing for the original Magination Press book is still on Goodreads, and even worse. My Amazon reviews are going straight to the old listing for a book that was never published and had a different illustrator.

You cannot find this addition anywhere because it was never published.

Goodreads support will not help me. They tell me that it was published. They don’t understand that. It really never was published. Whoever is trying to help me on good support does not seem to be in this country (USA). They don’t even understand that you obtain an ISBN long before publication. They keep telling me that they need to keep the listing as it is because someone may want to buy that addition of the book. It doesn’t matter at all that I keep telling them it was never published it was only In manuscript form, and then we parted ways, and all rights were reverted to me.

I need my Amazon reviews which sometimes funnel to Goodreads to go to the actual current edition, the actual published book that I have self published. Otherwise, nobody on Goodreads will actually be able to buy the book if they wish to. Because they will be reading reviews of a nonexistent book. It should be noted that I made revisions to the text as well.

Goodreads insists on keeping a listing for a book that was never published because of some adherence to some ideal. They think they are maintaining that’s fine. But they need to unlink it from Amazon and link up the actual published version and they refused to do it and they say they decision is final.

So it looks like as an internationally published journalist I’m going to have to go to all the top executives and also make a huge fuss on Twitter. Is this really necessary? Why can’t they assist me. Why do they not understand that the Magination book was never published at all. Never.

Scott Librarians are volunteers, and are not authorised to remove a record that has an ISBN (which normally indicates publication) and we certainly can't override a staff decision.

Your only option is to contact support again, and hope to get someone else who understands.

For the record, Amazon reviews are never "funnelled" or otherwise imported to Goodreads. If you see the same review in both places, it is because the user posted it on both sites.

Jill Neimark Yes but they review it on kindle, and the option to Goodreads goes to the old listing of a book never published--somehow they are hooked together. Okay I'll try support again. I'm thoroughly fed up with the dunces at support. Thanks.

Scott Ah, I see. That would still count as the user posting. Good luck with support.
