Erin I think of going to the beach and hiking as summer activities. Also visiting state and national parks. As a kid, summer also meant camping and backpacking, but I've not done those since early adulthood, unfortunately.

Shanna Swendson I'm not a big beach person for summer because I sunburn when I think about the sun. Every time I've been to a beach in summer, I've ended up with a massive sunburn. I like winter beaches, just walking and looking at the water. I think ice cream may have to go on my list of summer things. They sell ice cream at the concession stand by the bandstand during concerts, and I may do that. There's also a nice little gelato shop downtown.

Erin You've just been going to the wrong beaches, then! :D Try the ones in Oregon & Washington where you need to wear pants and sweatshirts (or coats) on all but one or two days a year. Plus in Oregon the beaches are all public and therefore MUCH less crowded than in most places.

I agree about the ice cream, though, and am smacking my head about forgetting that. Also, going to movies at dusk put on by the Parks & Rec Department. With popcorn, of course.
