Nowhere do I suggest it's your job to change anyone. I don't recommend you try. Very early in the book, I suggest moving on and getting help leaving if someone's abusive (one of the 3 stop signs). "Narcissistic abuse" falls into that category. No one should be "working on" an abusive relationship. Only the abuser can do that. In the absence of abuse, empathy prompts are for your benefit largely--and I'm clear about why. If others in yours life respond well to them, great. I also don't suggest "narcissism" can be cured with the right tone or empathy. I don't believe that, nor would I say or write it. It's true that my focus was much broader than NPD.
