Tali I am soooo excited about this but not excited about the price hike that comes with it being released 1 hour at a time. I love Big Finish but the US prices have gone up so much.

Travis Nice to hear.
I trust Mr. Briggs to treat 13 and Yaz right.

Rick Interesting that she’s arriving ahead of either Matt Smith or Peter Capaldi.

Capaldi seems to staying away from Who for awhile and Matt Smith is likely busy working on Morbius 2
😉

Both have kind of implied or outright said, they have no interest in returning to the role (at least anytime soon).

Travis That was a joke
There will be a morbius 2 right after Jared Leto makes a joker movie

A joke? Really? Are you sure about that? Morbius was the greatest film Sony has ever made, I’m sure they’ll make a second and a third and maybe even a fourth. I’d heard that the sequel is based on the book The Amish Vampire Bride and they’re building to the climax in a big crossover called Amish Vampires in Space!

Jared Leto’s one-man Joker film has a script written by Chuck Tingle Chuck Tingle

I'm Leto sees Morbius as a saga and hopefully when he (with help from Zach Snyder and Josh Trank) Zach Snyder gives us the Morbius 7 hour directors cut, we will all appreciate his vision.

Personally I'm hoping Sony makes a Scarlet Johansson Squirrel Girl movie. instead

I'm not sure what I expected when I clicked on those links...yikes.

Sony doesn’t have the film rights to Squirrel Girl.

Just keeping it real. That’s my job. Call me … The Realtor.

But seriously, it would have been a nightmare if Zach “I’m an incompetent filmmaker” Snyder is involved.

I'll bring him up, as the director I use to scare my friends.

Or if a movie is bad, we just say 'wait till you see the Snyder cut of...!"

message 20: by Rick (new)

Rick When I’m writing reviews of bad movies, I might add “only a Zack Snyder film could be worse” or something to that affect.

Matthew Kresal Rick wrote: "Interesting that she’s arriving ahead of either Matt Smith or Peter Capaldi."

Capaldi has made it clear in a number of interviews that he's not a fan of audio drama, at least from an actors point of view (indeed after one interview that got quoted out of context as an attack on Big Finish, Capaldi sent Nick Briggs an email to explain he'd been quoted out of context per comments Briggs made on the Big Finish Podcast, IIRC).

Smith, meanwhile, hasn't done any audio drama work and his only voice work has been Doctor Who connected from the time he was on the series between some video games and a trio of exclusive to audio stories. The impression I get from friends who've met him at conventions and put the Big Finish question to him is that he's aware of them but, for the moment, he's more interested in his screen career.

message 22: by Tali (new)

Tali Ah, so it sounds like we won’t be getting Capaldi at all unless he has a drastic change of heart. That’s sad.

Matt Smith is a busy man, but hopefully one day…

And we were never going to get Tom Baker back, and how many box sets has he done...?

message 24: by Rick (new)

Rick Sean Connery was famously quoted as saying he would never do another Bond film, and years later he did Never Say Never Again. Christopher Eccleston said he’d never return to Doctor Who and he came back with Big Finish, which he seems to be enjoying enormously from the behind the scenes interviews. So, I have a feeling that given a few years, a career winding down, fewer and fewer good rolls coming their way, both Smith and Capaldi might rethink their positions. But hopefully their careers will be strong and fruitful and that won’t happen anytime soon.

Travis So, which classic Doctor are we hoping the 13th meets first?

I'm voting for the 4th.
Love to hear Jodi and Tom interacting.

As he’s the one most likely to leave us next, yes.
But maybe Sylvester McCoy too.

Any of them would be fun.
I want her to meet Colin and while he's being all grumpy and confused, 13 is gushing about how much she likes his coat.

Her energy, I feel would pair great with any grumpy Doctor.

Matthew Kresal Travis wrote: And we were never going to get Tom Baker back, and how many box sets has he done...?"

We forget now that Tom Baker was VERY reluctant to come back to the part. Indeed, he made some rather disparaging remarks about Big Finish and their scripts early on (including saying he'd thrown one sent to him into the bin where it belonged in front of Gary Russell per The New Audio Adventures-The Inside Story). I think Modern Who's popularity and maybe getting older and looking back on Who as a career highlight rather than as an albatross helped with that, as did the fact that BBC Audio and Paul Magrs got him to reprise the role first before he gave Big Finish a proper try.

That still feels different from Capaldi not wanting to do audio drama or Smith simply being a much in-demand screen actor.

Tali I know Christopher Eccleston is stepping back for a bit but I would love to see 9 and 13 interact!

The 4th would be great. I'd love to hear her team with with the Second Doctor; I bet that would be fun.

I did a multi-Doctor fanfic with this combo.
It was fun to write the contrasting personalities.

message 32: by Travis (new)

Travis If it's just Jodi and Yaz, maybe the stories will be set pre-Flux?

Be cool if there were some pre-Dan new companions.

message 33: by Rick (new)

Rick It does seem likely to be set pre-Flux, and Big Finish does enjoy giving new companions to the Doctor.
