I completely agree 😉

I hope he attends AuthorCon next March so I can tell him in person.
Skipping this oone. I have read some of his books and decided I'm giving up on him. I don't get along with his writing style. :/
This was fun and creepy. I see some people didn't care for the story being written in Bela's perspective, but I found it to be more immersive because of it.
I bought this and read it the same day before realizing it was going to be a September read. I can't wait to see everyone's thoughts on it. very different narration then I'm used to but in a good way

I haven't enjoyed anything I've read by him yet either, sadly! I decided this one is probably going to be my final attempt with his writing.

Honestly, this may be one of the few of his I did like...
I feel the same way Destiny. Hope you like the book but as for now I think I'm done with Malerman. His books never gets exciting.

I've heard a couple of people say they don't normally like his books but enjoyed this one, which is the only reason I'm giving it a go! Fingers crossed!

Good to see conversation about the varied feelings on this author's writing. I'm even more intrigued now to see what I feel about it! I don't think I've ever read one of his books
I enjoyed Bird Box and Malorie. They were clever and frightening. I've been meaning to read other books by Malerman, but haven't gotten around to it. I started reading Incidents last night. It's not going well. As a general rule, I don't like kid narration. I'm not sure why I thought this would be different.
My reservation at the local library has arrived. Happy to be joining you for this one. I agree that Malerman is not for everybody. I've read 4 or 5 of his novels, and his method of story-telling varies a bit for each one. So, if you read one of his novels and didn't like it, you may feel differently about another.
I have struggled to find a copy of this. I am currently bidding for a copy on ebay! Fingers crossed. I haven't read any of this author before, but people tell me this book is seriously scary!
This is one of the more frightening and unnerving books I read this year. Hope others enjoy it!
I got this in audiobook first but couldn't get through the first chapter. Couldn't listen the narrator's child voice. So I have it in physical copy now. Excited to read it :)
I started this yesterday and just finished chapter 17. It's a quick, easy read (I mean that in the best possible way). I wasn't sure if I would like it after the first couple of chapters, but it's really ramping up and I don't want to put it down!
McKensi wrote: "Just finished this. I truly do not understand the hype."I finished it last night. I didn't think the book was exceptional either. It was just okay. The monster was excellent. Other Mother was scary and hard to pin down.
I could have done without the parents. They were annoying. Why were they delivering confessional soliloquies in the middle of the night to their sleeping child? I'm guessing Malerman needed to dump some information on us?
I agree with McKenzi I do not get the hype. I’m about halfway through and the only creepiness I’m finding is that I’m listening on audible and that it’s spoken in a childlike voice is the reason. I’m trudging through though because I’m no quitter.

Yeah, sometimes the narrators on audiobooks make the story even better. And, sometimes they mess it up because of the particular voice they use or their narration style.
Compliments to you for recognizing that and picking up the printed novel to give it another chance to win you over!

I wondered about that as well. Who gives lectures or advise to a sleeping child? . . . unless they are Scientologists. Malerman could have found some other way to get that info in. Maybe he just wanted to characterize that peculiar habit of theirs? (Not likely, me thinks).
I'm only at page 41 . . . but I'm finding this plenty creepy. Not scaring me yet, but I did think about this book a little when I woke up at 2:30 a.m. . . but was able to get back to sleep. That short short first chapter was a tight and clever piece of writing . . . foreshadowing and indicating the threat/danger right there in the final lines.
Just finished the chapter with the playground incident. Now, that is a real departure from stories like this. Wow.
I'm a little more than half way through (I'm reading on my breaks at work) and it's quite a quick read. If I wasn't limiting it to my work book I'd have it done in a sitting since I want to keep turning pages to find out how it ends. I'll say some spots were quite creepy so far, but nothing is downright scary for me yet, although reviews point to quite an ending.
