He certainly did, Brandice, and may account for my lackluster feelings. It just wasn't as intricately plotted or delivered.

Thanks so much, Jan! The romance is actually a plot device from the beginning and sets up some of the later story, but I just couldn't buy it.

Insightful review, Victoria! I have been seeing such rave reviews of this book, and it is so nice to read another perspective. You do a fantastic job of explaining what works/doesn't work.

Another underwhelming thriller! Seems to be quite a few of them lately. Terrific review that probably better than the book!

I agree. I loved the beginning. After that I felt a bit let down. Of course Jack would have his comeuppance (sp?) The Matthew romance was a damp squib. I lost the thread of motivation- maybe not enough at stake. Some wasted bits of genius like dna matching not really needed. An over abundance of similes distracted me. Possibly too many characters that I didn’t get to know. Overall a little crowded? I don’t want to bring down the star rating but I wanted to know what others thought and this resonated with me!

I'm so glad it resonated with you. Despite the five years since I read it, reading your thoughts reminded me about this letdown. Crowded and overwrought. Thanks for sharing!
