Sharon Pincott Hi Em, you're right. What really goes on behind the scenes - for the elephants and for those who look out for them on the ground - really does need to be told and known... For those who prefer to read less about the political, corruption, cruelty (etc) that affects all elephants so terribly, are better suited to read THE ELEPHANTS AND ME (originally published as The Elephants and I) which covers just my first 7 years in Zimbabwe, and because I was still in the country at the time of release, I couldn't write the (hard-hitting) deep truths - since doing so was simply too dangerous for me to do while still in the country. You'll read more of the happier times with the elephants in this other book... I understand it can sometimes be difficult to read the hard truths, but awareness is so important and eyes do need to be opened if we're to save these magnificent giants from extinction. I do also understand it's just too harrowing for some to do (despite there also being a lot of good times in Elephant Dawn as well). I think The Elephants and Me is likely more your type of story.... From feedback I've received, the 'inspiration' comes with sticking it out for over a decade full-time in the field when things get tougher than tough, and knowing that anyone and everyone can help to make a difference, despite really trying circumstances.... Wishing you all the very best and happy reading! Cheers for now, Sharon. (In the meantime, you might like to watch some of the happier video snippets of my intimate relationship with these elephants that you'll find under photos/videos on my personal website. It won't let me put that link in here - but you can simply google to find it.)
