K.D. I have been following Tim on YouTube for a while, so I was eager to read his book.
At first, I was disappointed. The opening chapters left me confused, even lost. They were well-written, but I felt like I'd walked into a movie theater after the show had started. I kept asking, "Who are these people? Why should I care about this?" I nearly put the book down but remembered I'd felt this way about another book that I ended up loving (The Prince of Tides), so I kept reading. I AM SO GLAD I DID!
The Shithead is an internal ride that takes us into those dark streets and stormy nights of our own making and imagination. We revisit why we are the way we are and why it's so hard to let go of those dismal aspects locked inside us.
I fully connected with Eric and cheered him on. A few times, I wanted to crawl into the page with him and yell at him to wise up, forgive, believe, look deeper, stay strong, and keep going.
I am SO GLAD I did not lay the book aside. It's fabulous.
