A true classis hard-boiled detective novel--one of the first! The "telegram-esque" style of Hammett is carried perfectly throughout the novel as are particular, odd things characters notice. Everything about the characters is true to their personality and motives. Really great writing that made me need to go outside and take a few breaths of clean, fresh air. Love it!
