I'm very late to reply to this blog, which I found just now after searching "does relentless promotion by indie authors work?"
I'm with you. I hate the endless self promotion required by indie authors. I don't have time to pay that much attention to other authors, and I presume they don't have the time to pay that much attention to me. I'm also not convinced it's worth it.
I'd rather focus on my next project and let my book find its way organically - or not.
So far, I've had nothing but positive responses from readers, who email me with spontaneous reviews. It doesn't count in the real word of publishing but it's enough for me.
Thanks for your comments.
I wish you continued success with your own books and writing. - Jane
