I read an Erotica once where one of the characters was able to have sex with himself, so I'd say read whatever floats your boat, babe."
That's brilliant :DDD

cheers!!!

I need warning if the author is a murderer of characters.

First, it feels like the author doesn't think they can keep my attention without it.
Second, it is mostly filler with no purpose to the plot. I can certainly appreciate a well-written scene or two, but when it's every chapter I'm worried the author needed more words and couldn't come up with more plot.
Third, it can be uncomfortable. This entirely depends on the scene, but if a sex scene in a book makes me uncomfortable enough, I put that book down and do not pick it back up again.
Of course, you can have plenty of sex in your book without making it *smut*. I usually prefer it this way.

I mostly agree with that. Depending on what I am reading is what level I want and that authors think they have to put it in now is too bad. I reread the Kate Daniels series and that they started putting graphic sex in those at the end of the series seemed misplaced. I would skim to see where they are talking again. I read erotica so sex is fine for me but not when I reading for a good mystery or Fantasy. When I want the erotic, I'll pick those books up and read. If I'm reading mystery or UF, I would rather the graphic sex more alluded to for the romance in that case though the romance is good. I read them at different times of day and different moods.
Now if you are talking just romance books in general, too much is when it gets in the way of the story line of the couple getting together. If the sex is much of what is getting them together, it is erotica. Lynn Kurland has some great romance books that have no sex. I prefer my romances to have a little. My erotica should be short and have a lot (bring it on then) but please give me a bit of a good plot too.

I have just purchased a erotic novel called ALLURENATRIX from author Charisma Alarie.
I had not heard of this writer before, nor of her work.
ALLURENATRIX is a double ..."
I don't feel that there is a clear line on this topic that can be drawn. Since it is all subjective and based on the individuals comfort zones. What one person may view as not enough, another may view it as too much. We each have our limits in what we're comfortable with exploring. Whether that be for ourselves or for someone else's benefit. In books or in life.
This book you speak of sounds very interesting. So thank you for the recommendation.

If it's within the bounds of NON-abuse and CONSENTUAL, I'm in :)

I think it also depends on the chemistry of the characters. If the author is just trying to force a fantasy of their own onto everyone then... no. But if it works with the story and the characters then go for it

That being said - I think context is key. Since this post started the discussion based on erotic novels I'll stay in that vein. I've read spicy books where nothing explicit was written, but the writing style and character dynamic made me feel like I was reading some truly sexy smut. But, I've also read erotica which goes into explicit details on what is going on and reading it didn't feel nearly as dirty.
If you're reaching for an erotic novel you must be aware that there will be at least some spice in the novel. Beyond that, I think how much is "too much" is 100% dependent on the reader.

ALLURENATRIX is a double pack of erotic stories, one is set in the Victorian era in Scotland (which I loved) and is quite naughty and very (!) inventive when it comes to the alluring methods of the main character.
The good thing is that the main man is not described too much, so that the reader can fill in the blanks. In the end we all prefer different types of men, aren't we? So that's great!
The second part is quite the trip: the protagonist (us) discovers a realm of mystical creatures and experiences all sorts of erotic adventures with them. There are water creatures, fairies (called faeries), centaurs and fauns, and an elven prince with some interesting naughty darkness about him.
The adventures go from being pleasured with devices and unique methods in part one, to very unique kinds of sexual encounter in part two... And despite it being really REALLY bold and daring, I must say that I am not sure if it oversteps a boundary or two?
How naughty is too naughty? How far can we go with erotic novels?
In the end there are quite some shapeshifter, vampire, werewolf and even dinosaur porn books out there.
So is being pleasured by a mermaid or a centaur TOO naughty?
What do you think? I would really like to read your thoughts.
The book is currently on £1.99 / $ 0.99 on Amazon and available on kindle for a secret read :).
