The initial criticism is a disappointingly common example of illogical thinking. Claiming that the cognitive capacities of dolphins make them vulnerable to a particular kind of harm does not mean that "harm to unsophisticated minds is no big deal." That would be the logical fallacy of denying the antecedent--the equivalent of saying that "Being born in Boston means you were born in Massachusetts" implies that "Not being born in Boston means you were not born in Massachusetts." Harm is always a "big deal."
