You can create an alternate cover edition yourself.

When I tried to change covers in the author edit area (before I reached out to you) - it said only librarians are allowed to replace the cover with a different one. It is not an alternate version. I am replacing the current version's cover so that the previous cover will no longer be available. Please advise as to what I am doing wrong since the message I got when I tried was that only Librarians can do it. Thanks!

You should be using the small button at the top of the book page to create an alternate cover edition. Then you upload the new cover.

We do not delete the old cover. Goodreads is a site for readers of all books, not just the latest ones.

Thanks for the guidance. When I create an alternate cover edition - will all of the information including reviews and ratings follow the alternate edition and is there a way to make it the default view or will both versions show up on my profile?

Reviews show on all editions. You can edit the new one and set it as default.
