Fantastic to see this new thread. I don't want to overwhelm anyone so I'll post a highlighted book once a week or so.First up is our most recent anthology, Influence of the Moon which is available on Amazon in physical book, ebook, and audiobook formats.
https://www.amazon.com/Influence-Moon...
Awards:
Critter Award for Best Anthology of 2019, 2nd place
"Vogel Apartments" got the Critter Award for Magical Realism, 2nd place
"Green Sky" was nominated for the Rhysling
"Lines Written by Moonlight at Whitby Abbey" was nominated for the Rhysling
"the music of Luna's pull" was nominated for the Dwarf Star
Nice to meet a Critter. I stopped doing that years ago when I decided I was not cut out to be a writer. Good luck with it.
Hi everybody,I was part of a group on Goodreads who joined to write an anthology. We all would be happy to have more reviews, here is the book:
Writers in Lockdown: A collection of short stories
Leticia wrote: "Hi everybody,"Hi Leticia, welcome to the group! You may (if you wish) introduce yourself in the neighboring thread - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
As for the collection, does it contain SF or fantasy, for it isn't clear from the description. Also, to stimulate interest you may offer a free copy to people, who ask you for a copy in exchange for a honest review. It isn't required but it may help
The UnnaturalsHello everyone! I am brand new to the group, as well as brand new to Goodreads in general. "The Unnaturals" is my debut, self-published Dystopian Novel and I would love some feedback!
Blurb:UN-27 is a member of the fiercest fighting force the world has ever known: The Unnaturals.
His human masters have raised and trained him in isolation for as long as he can remember. In that time, they have molded he and his fellow super-soldiers to fulfill a single purpose: protect the Puritan city from the abominations outside of the Great Dome. For centuries, the Puritans remained isolated from the sinful, globalized societies of the world. When the Calamity finally claimed the planet, the Puritans were vindicated. Until the survivors outside approached. Beings that were once human have become something… else.
When his first mission in defense of the Puritan city goes horribly awry, UN-27 will soon discover that perhaps the only source of information he has ever known cannot be trusted and that the abominations existing in the shattered remnants of the world are more than they appear. Will he be able to reconcile the violence of his upbringing with the catastrophic consequences it carries? Or will the legacy of thousands of years of senseless hate claim him?
“This dystopian tale explores the impending state of our planet in which plausible, yet wildly fantastic concepts of human evolution, climate change, and political ideologies are played out.” - Rhianon Eleoff, Editor - DreamVAServices

The anthology has a mix of genres I think, but mostly seem to be sci-fi. (I'm still reading it myself).
I can't provide free copies because I'm not the main person responsible for the anthology, that would be Faith Jones https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
The ebook tough is quite cheap, and is available on KU.

Hello everyone. Let me introduce you to my first published novel Amara. A psychological thriller with aspects of Sci Fi and Fantasy.

Unable to call for help, and scared of what being the only person left alive in a massacred town suggests, he leaves the shattered town to find his partner, Jaclyn Hunsacker. He and Jaclyn must work together, while navigating their complicated relationship, to solve the mystery of who laid waste to an entire town. If their investigation proves unsuccessful, Wolfe may never be able to clear his name as the main suspect of the murders.

Happy Halloween - if you're looking for some New Adult Science Fiction that's dark and full of thrills, look no futher. Sentience: An Exploration of AI through an Epic Turing Test is available on Amazon and KU! I describe it as Michael Crichton's Westworld meets The Hunger Games for grown-ups, and I'm happy to report that early readers are enjoying it. Sentience currently holds a 4.58 rating on Goodreads. The Amazon link is below, and beneath that is a brief synopsis!https://amzn.to/2TAmB8H
Running from a violent past, Leo Knox desperately decides to participate in a scientific experiment conducted by the infamous and greedy tech-giant, AlgorithmOS. Soon, Leo learns that she has agreed to take part in a Turing Test, a test that measures the ability of artificial intelligence to blend in among humanity, but what she doesn’t know is that the test set to take place is unlike any other of its kind.
Leo enters Eden, the contained preserve where the test will occur, with twenty-three others. While everyone appears to be human, four of the individuals are an indistinguishably advanced form of humanoid AI. The task is simple: identify the AI while trying to survive. The twist? The four AI are completely unaware of their nature, causing every participant to question what they know as reality.
The group embarks on a journey within the preserve, rigged with obstacles devised by the controllers of the experiment to elicit human response and emotion. Quickly, madness ensues and divides form, partnering Leo up with Avery Ford, a Marine who wears his demons on his sleeve. Romance falls together for the two as the world around them falls apart, revealing the lengths people will go to protect those they love, to achieve monetary gain, or simply to survive.
Back at AlgorithmOS, the story unfolds on the screens of Nathan Aimes, a scientist responsible for monitoring the experiment’s surveillance cameras. Nathan studies the humans involved as they wrestle with where they stand on the polarizing issue of AI and its applications. He watches the AI unknowingly fight to prove their humanity just to leave the experiment unscathed. All the while, Nathan is intimately aware of his company’s plans to weaponize or commodify the AI should they pass the test, and he must reconcile this with the chaos that plays out before him.
@Courtney: Your book already caught my attention on NetGalley ( https://www.netgalley.com/catalog/boo... ), but as I have lots of other books to read, I'm going to give priority to those ones first. If I have enough time left, I'll definitely read Sentience too though 😉

Thanks to the COVID lockdowns, I finally made time to write my first book and am now trying to get the word out. It's titled Godsquatter, and it's a satirical sci-fi pseudo-adventure that’s kinda like “They Live,” but with fewer mullets – and more potatoes. On the one hand, it's a quirky sci-fi semi-adventure about three fast food workers and a grandmother unearthing the deepest conspiracy of all time. On the other hand, it’s a satirical romp through the mad chaos of social media and popular culture. And on the other-other hand, it’s a prescient warning of the fate awaiting us all should we blindly succumb to the dark machinations of our starchy potato overlords.
Most of Godsquatter takes place in present day. But in proper Space Odyssey fashion, it begins somewhat further back, which you can read for free:
Prologue - The Bellwether

For readers in the US, there is a Goodreads Giveaway on for 'Songbird Ascension'. You can enter the Giveaway until 21 June to win one of 100 Kindle Edition copies.A dying student. A visionary scientist. Civilization-crushing conflict.
Songbird Ascension is a good read for sci-fi fans interested in the themes of human-machine union, technological singularity and cyborg evolution.
The narrative style will sit well with readers who enjoy character-centric novels that step beyond the traditional definitions of heroes and villains.
Happy reading and let me know what you think!
Khira wrote: "For readers in the US, there is a Goodreads Giveaway on for 'Songbird Ascension'. You can enter the Giveaway until 21 June to win one of 100 Kindle Edition copies."Done! Now the problem is, if I win, how will I find the time to read it.

Hey! I just wanted to share I'm giving away print copies of a science fantasy romance as part of a Goodreads Giveaway. https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sh...
Here's what Katherine Graham, Author of The Vow That Twisted Fate, had to say about StarDust (Book 2 of the Five Elements):
"Wow is just not a strong enough reaction to convey the amazing shock and awe I am in having completed StarDust. As a science fiction, fantasy, and science fantasy lover I can say that this book truly encapsulates the best qualities of the science fantasy genre!
StarDust follows pop star Leigh and her mysterious yet good-hearted newly-found friend/partner/lover Brayden on an adventure of self-discovery, forgiveness, love for self and others, and duty.
Nicole paints worlds vividly well in this book, and a reader could easily pick up this book without being lost if you haven't read book one as the characters and setting are uniquely their own (but you should definitely read book 1 - UpSpark - if you have not already).
The characters and story are unique and unpredictable. This book goes beyond reading, beyond "watching it like a movie", and instead puts you right there with these characters as they go through their adventure. I felt my heart get ripped out, I laughed aloud, and I walked away from this book with a unique and different understanding of aspects of the world I hadn't thought about before.
Short-version of the review is this: Do you want an easy, never-dull story that you can't put down? One with gripping and relatable characters and vivid worlds? Curious about what a good science fantasy looks like (with a little steamy romance thrown in)? Look no further. This is your book."
Nicole wrote: "Hey! I just wanted to share I'm giving away print copies of a science fantasy romance as part of a Goodreads Giveaway. ..."I put in my name for the free book, Nicole, but then I went back to the webpage and withdrew. Why? Because I read the first few pages of the Kindle version online and bought all three of the series. I don't know when I will ever get to read them (TMBTLT) but they look really good. And the prices are not stupid, always a plus. If they had been 8 or 10 bucks each, I couldn't have done that.
Best of luck with the writing.
Welcome Nicole and thanks for the link - you may be interested in introducing yourself here (it is not necessary): https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Gemini of the Sleeping GodsHello sci-fi friendz, I am Hyperphant.
My recent book that I published is like none other you have read. Gemini of the Sleeping Gods is set in a Stone Age world where the undead rumblings of ancient advanced civilizations still wriggle their protean fingers in the sticky pie of the current day. There are time-traveling warrior-cyborgs, feuding tribals, fallen gods, and a whole race of loin-cloth clad Bilbos who speak in grunts and pelvic thrusts.

A review a comrade-author posted on his blog is available here; https://sagaofaelorad.wordpress.com/2...
I am currently looking for reviews in exchange for FREE BOOK. If you wish one please notify me via psionic telecommunications or simply a message. In whichever format (PDF, .mobi, etc.) you prefer
Book Blurb;
Under the undying gaze of the red sun Bask and amidst the machinations of mortals, the traveler known as The Wanderer carries with him both a message and the relic of a fallen god—weaving into his chaotic odyssey a cast of expatriates, both willing and unwilling, their journey seeking answers at the misty fringes of the known world.
Awoken in the yawning abyss of a phantom empire, a pale warrior claws free of a millennia-elder grave to challenge any who stand in his way—even the legacy of his own creators—before an exigent task; to hunt down the construct of his rival and destroy it before it can complete its portentous mission.
The first installment in the science-fantasy series The Books of Bask, brings a new flavor of the fictional epic as primordial wills clash across the gulfs of time in a wild and astral world dense in barbaric tribes, terrifying technology, and the ancient bones of hypercivilizations.
For anyone interested in taking a look at my novel Songbird Ascension, it will be free to download from Amazon from 28 August to 01 September:https://www.amazon.com/Songbird-Ascen...
It's a good read for sci-fi fans interested in the topics of human-machine merger, collective consciousness and post-human evolution. It is also very much a character-centric story, stepping beyond the traditional hero and villain templates.
Thoughts, impressions and feedback are most welcome :)

A dying student. A visionary scientist. Civilisation-crushing conflict.

As their paths cross, Michael becomes instrumental in a critical breakthrough in Professor Khatri’s research with consequences that neither of them could have predicted. Can Michael cheat death? Can the emerging post-human race cross the cataclysmic chasm separating them from the loved ones they’ve left behind?

Hi P.L. ! Do you have any short fiction on any semi-pro-zines or just internet sites? This also a question to other authors - I often prefer not to jump into novels/series by a new name, but check shorter works online
Hi Oleksandr,I've been dissatisfied by my efforts at short fiction. So, I've never submitted any of those pieces to paying markets. And, my background is academic and I've got dozens of (scientific) publications, so at a personal level I never felt a need to establish or prove myself through shorter works (some writers enjoy writing short fiction and some of those writers want publishing credits.)
But your perspective is sensible and probably common. I'd say stick with what works for you.
If you're looking for SFF authors who are proven, I'd also recommend Matt Haig's adult sci-fi. It's super readable and satisfying.
The other avenue to consider for new SFF authors is to look at the SPSFC and SPFBO contests, in which teams of voracious SFF bloggers select the best ten fantasy and sci-fi titles from 300 entries in each. I believe some of the past winners went on to become movies and so on.
P.L. wrote: "I've been dissatisfied by my efforts at short fiction. So, I've never submitted any of those pieces to paying markets..."It is perfectly understandable, different people can have a predisposition to writing works of different length. I, in my teens, also started several novels instead of trying a hand on a shorter works. I may try your novel one day for I'm interested in new voices, but time constraints mean that it won't be very soon
