Hey Gerhard! Thanks for taking the time to read my book. It sounds like you're dealing with a fair amount of trauma of living in Johannesburg that's clouded your judgment somewhat. Firstly, I never referred to Cape Town being a model city that Johannesburg should follow in the footsteps of. I merely mentioned their homegrown mayor - Geordin Hill Lewis being a good example of how governance is aided by someone governing in the place they grew up in.
I'm standing by my comments on walking... You implying its impossible without getting bliksemed makes you part of the problem, I'm afraid.
I also have to be honest: I giggled when you said "like a diehard nimby himself". Nothing could be further from the truth.
The main argument in this book remains: If you want to live and love in Joburg: Accept it for what it is and get busy making a difference in your own corner of the city. A point I'm not sure quite landed with you.
Thanks again for the input... Come on a Dlala Nje tour sometime and we can go for a walk through Hillbrow. We'll show each other there is more to life in this city than moaning and being scared.
