Yikes… they exist, why not be realistic about it regardless of opinion.
He also included a transgender and hinted at a non-binary character. It's just posturing for his fans
Dude, they talked about same-sex marriage in book 2 and 3. You took this long to realize that there’s same sex?
It's fascinating how some people use a faith built on love, acceptance, and compassion to justify exclusion and bigotry (forgive me if I've misjudged your religion, but I think I'm on the mark). Of all the things in this book that could be critiqued—Lift, plot, character development, Lift, pacing, style, Lift—you chose to focus on the presence of a same-sex relationship. If that bothers you more than the story itself, perhaps it's worth reflecting on why that is.
This is the worst reason to not continue reading a book. It’s beautiful that two creatures love each other and have finally found that other half that accept and cherish them, not to mention completely different species. I feel defensive of them as everyone deserves to be happy.
Lol! I love how open-minded you all are to people with different perspectives. It's my opinion. You have yours. I just think yours is wrong, lol!
I agree. I read books, especially this kind of books, to forget about left and right propaganda in the real life. I just want a good story.
Great review! 100% agree!!! It so incredibly disappointing that he added more of this in here 😭
Also, it’s amazing how these negative commenters want their freedom to say what they want but we so much as share our views and they tell us to shut up and go cry. Amazing. Doesn’t make me want to believe y’all’s ideals it makes me want to stay away from it more. Y’all are quite frankly hypocritical. You don’t like what someone has to say? Then don’t comment 🤯
Keep standing for truth, Josh! God bless!
yall need to stop being rude to him for having an opinion. he doesn't want sin influencing his life, that's perfectly okay.
Woah what on Earth is this comment section. You all are trying to act like this person is "hating" and "horrible" while you are destroying them in the comments. You all should be ashamed of yourself, he can have an opinion as much as you can. It's called free speech, and I applaud him for standing up in the face of hatred.
Also you all need to remember that as Christians, we can love but also disagree at the same time. Not conforming to worldly beliefs is not "hatred" It's trying to spread the light in a world full of darkness and misled people. Just because we have convictions about things does not mean in any way that we hate. This reviewer can choose to read what he wants to. Just leave him alone
What the heck? He shares his own opinion and like 50 people attack him for it?! that's actually ridiculous. He can have his own fricken opinion. I think it's a great review, thanks for standing up for your beliefs Josh!
@M exactly, I made a comment earlier. They’re fighting for something but don’t want to give us the same opportunity to have our own opinion. The logic doesn’t match up
EXACTLY. This person is allowed to have his own opinion and so are you. Don't attack someone for standing up for their beliefs.
Hey, Beth! It is quite a bit different in intentionality. What I mean is that, yes, there was a passing reference to a couple in Oathbringer, and you can definitely see Renarin's preferences. The differences lie where in Oathbringer, he mentioned this to make the world seem more realistic in scope. For everyone saying that I "don't want homosexuals to exist," that's absurd. I don't see an issue in referencing that homosexuality is real in the same way that I don't have an issue when Sanderson talks about abuse in his books. It's real.....but it isn't glorified or promoted.
What I can't, in good conscience, permit is when the promotion of this relationship becomes a prominent plot point, story line, or focal point. I don't want to be entertained by the promotion of sexual sin, just like I don't want to be entertained by the promotion of blasphemy. Sanderson even admitted that he was taking a risk in that regard by including it. A risk that, from my worldview, was not worth taking.

Opinions are allowed and criticism of opinions is allowed. If one does not want their opinions criticized or challenged, then don't post them on a public website.
don't try and justify, remember the majority of these people complaining are bandwagon jumpers who only arrived after he went woke, they didn't even read the book. They only support "agreement" with it being good.
Will not tolerate lgbtq relationships because of sin. But murder, violence, slavery, theft, assassinations, and tattoos were fine.
Don't read anything that challenges your worldview or beliefs. Smart.
There are so many disgusting and awful sins in this series. Not least of which is slavery and torture. How is this the only thing that offends your Christian beliefs? The old testament has a problem with women attending church after having a child. And there is a smaller period after having a male child. If you are so devout that you can't look on the face of sin it may be time for you to ascend and leave this world behind. Go and walk in the garden with Jesus and discuss your beliefs in person. Let he with no sin cast the first stone.
@Matthew the Old Testament thing is not how that works. Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament law which He says in Matthew. That’s why we don’t abide to the laws placed in Deuteronomy and Leviticus, so that doesn’t exactly work. Also you getting mad at him for not liking a certain thing in a book, and you shaming his religion when you clearly don’t know anything about is not ok.
You can't be entertained by blasphemy? Jasnah and Dalinar have been committing blasphemy since book one... Did you... Not notice?
