She's hella good at CIA Facebook, though. That's all you need to be a spycatcher these days, I guess.

So far this book sucks on every level. I'm gonna try to finish it quickly so I can read something much, much better.
My favorite bit of Lyndsey Isn't So Smart: She installed a super-secret Double-Agent Only app on her phone for the guy she ran in Russia, and then...meh, she just sort of forgot to turn on notifications, lol. Utter. Nonsense.

Yeah, I thought that was funny too. Then when she does turn it back on, she automatically assumes that the person she's chatting with is her (former) asset's wife...because you know, no one else could crack her super secret phone app that she ignored for months. Ha.
Oh, she's been introduced to the CIA Facebook now. Love her reaction: Like, wow, man. This is groovy-cool!
Oh, and 2 seconds before she remembers her secret chat phone app, she says something about not being a "smartphone person" and not being good with them. Like--WTF. Really? And you're a CIA agent? If she's not so good with the high-tech phones (that even 10 yr olds can operate), then how does she know her secret chat app is so damn top secret? ***EYE ROLL****

Thank you. I will add that of course my review is better (I'm completely impartial!).
This may be my favorite review ever. I was looking at reviews to see if I was missing something and there was going to be a big plot twist that would make continuing this worthwhile. Sounds like no!

Definitely a NO! You are missing nothing. Stop reading. The book is awful. Katsu apparently is better known for writing horror novels but she's such an abysmal writer I can't imagine those are any better.
LOL I just randomly remembered how much I disliked this book and came back to read the negative reviews all over again

It is fun reading negative reviews of books you hated, isn't it? This is possibly one of the worst thrillers I've ever read. It's so badly thought out.
It’s the best- we’re all like family 😂
I also took a gander at your review of The Fireman, which I despised as well - honestly could not believe how poor that book was
(I had also tried Nos4atu or whatever it was called and abandoned it about halfway through - I’m all done with all his books)

I also abandoned Nos4atu (or whatever). After the MC grew up, I lost interest because it was bad. Just so bad. I probably won't read anything new by him. I am vaguely interested in the Black Phone book because I guess it's a movie? TV show? It looks interesting (but I'm sure it has many references to dad's books).
I'm actually enjoying the book, though admittedly it was a slow burn for me (it took me getting to 60 percent of the novel to be hooked). Anyways, I'm commenting because I've never laughed this hard at a comment. The fact that you quoted parts of the book to illustrate your point

This book is terrible but I'm glad you enjoyed the review. It seems you stopped midcomment though....
I haven't read this book but do a deep Japanese bow to this review. Someone who is so outraged by mediocrity that they spend a good chunk of their creativity and free time warning others: that's a high level of public service. Bows again

Thank you. I am outraged by mediocrity. I get so many dumb comments mocking me for writing reviews about books I didn't like--they don't get it. This is why I do it (and to amuse myself) so thank YOU for understanding. Deep Japanese bow right back at ya!
