Thank you, Blue Moon Publishing, for a terrific concept. Often it happens that one of my novels begins as a concept fleshed out and tested among friends via a short story format. Those that exhibit a larger "presence" can be revisited later as full length novels, in which tangential yet promising aspects can be given the attention they deserve. But the original encapsulated short story version still lives on, and I love the short format. I'm very glad too be part of this group!- Michael Vorhis
Hi Everyone! I love writing short stories - it's so satisfying after working on a long novel! I do find it challenging though - every word counts! And as Michael mentioned, often an idea for a short story turns into a novel! Looking forward to this group and building a community for short stories :)
Thank for the invitation to join! Love short stories! This group looks like an excellent place to find and recommend them :)
Welcome Anita! We had an interesting exchange today about movies based on short stories. If you know of any, share with us under the "Your Favourite Short Stories" folder, or, just let us know what your favourite short stories are :)
Hi to all. I write short short stories to practice storytelling and use them to introduce myself to others. You can see the complete collection at http://www.jackdurish.com/short-stori... I also have published several in other venues including www.ReadWave.com where more than 11,000 readers have viewed them. I recommend ReadWave highly. It is a great source of free short stories.
Enjoy, and I look forward to reading yours as well.
Happy to be here! My short stories have been published all over the place, but here's one, "Synchronicity," very short, you can read for free http://buzzymag.com/synchronicity-by-...
I'm really excited to find this group. (Thanks for the invite, Digiwriting!) I've been working on some short shorts lately. I have five flash stories started, and one nearly finished. (I'm working on them as part of Holly Lisle's free Flash Fiction course: "How to Write Flash Fiction That Doesn't Suck". I love the course title. ^_^ I'm on lesson 2 of 3.) Once I finish the first one, I plan on putting it up on my blog for free. Then I'm going to do a collection of the five together, which will likely also be free (or cheap).I also write longer pieces, but have yet to finish any of my novels in progress. Although I did finish a novella (I think, 50-something pages, whatever that length is called) last year. I don't have anything published online. Well, not under this name. I have a few short pieces up on one website under a pen name (warning: Adults only). If you are interested in reading them, PM me for links, but only if you are 18 or older and not offended by smut. *blushes*
I'm trying to get away from writing just smut, though I still write some explicit scenes. If they fit in the story. No more PWP (porn without plot) for me!
And I've written a lot more than I meant to... I tend to run off at the

Good morning! I'm a fan of short stories. My first big accomplishment as a writer, several years ago, was finally selling a short story to my favorite fiction magazine (On Spec Magazine). Since then I have had a number of sales (if you are curious: http://blog.brentknowles.com/bibliogr...)Nice to meet everyone here. And if you'd like to read one of my freely available stories, published a couple years ago, at NewMyths, you can: https://sites.google.com/a/newmyths.c...
Have a great day!

Hi, I've mostly been writing poetry and putting together some ideas for a couple of potential novels. I've always found it difficult to write short stories, so I'm hoping to challenge myself.
Cheers
JT
JT,The challenge is on :) How can we help you with it? Anyone have ideas for JT? We could start up a thread for this, or JT, feel free to start one up yourself - this group is here to support you!
Thanks. I just joined this group for Short Story Connect. I am an author and a blogger. Most of my blogging is done on www.neel48.blogspot.com though occasionally I also put up my posts on www.neelkant16.wordpress.com. Three of my books had been self-published on Amazon. They are:1. Short Stories for Young Readers - Book 1
2. Short Stories for Success for Young Readers: A New Lexicon Unfolded
3. What If Our Dreams Come True! An Uncommon meeting with Lord Siva (A Novel)
I have also put a couple of my stories from my book in my blog.

Why, hello everyone. I'm Jasmine Tabor. I am an aspiring author. I mostly write short stories though. Maybe because I only really have time for just that, with school and sports and whatnot. I honestly love writing short stories. It's fabulous. You write more, create more with so few words. I don't know how people just don't fall in love with this particular writing art form.
I do have to say, though. One day, I would love to write a novel. Not a short story or novella. A novel. With lots and lots of words and a pretty cover.
Another thing, I love to make covers. Most times, I write short stories and I buy sketchbooks and put the story in the sketch book. It ends up looking gorgeous and is really fun.
When I write, when I really get into a story so much that I want to put it into a sketchbook, it helps with my stress levels and makes me feel better even days after.
It's just this sense of feeling proud of yourself. Like you did something. So, if I ever publish a book, I can't even imagine the feeling I'd get from it.
Anyway, it is nice to join this group and I hope I get to know each and every one of you.
Jasmine Tabor

Hi - This sounds like a group for me! I see mentions of Raymond Carver (my favorite author) and Olive Kitteredge (in my top ten books). I look forward to reading your short fiction. I'm on twitter at @jimbrez too. If you have your short fiction published in online journals, I'm happy to retweet it. Thanks, Digiwriting.Jim - I just read your story in Matchbook, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. You got so much depth, poignancy and humor in such a short piece.

Hi everybody and thanks for the invite!I'm Rachel from Pittsburgh, PA and my genre of choice is romance. At this point I'm an aspiring writer about halfway through my first manuscript, but I find short stories to be a great outlet for creative writing.
Looking forward to chatting with you all!
Hi everyone. I'm a new author - debut novel was published March 24, 2014 (Little White Lies)and I've since self published two novels - or novellas. I'm still not clear what constitutes a short story versus novella. But I'm attempting my first true "short story" right now - under 20,000 words. Man is that tough! It definitely takes different brain muscles than a novel. But I'm excited to see where it goes. Thanks for the invite to the group.
Hi, I'm Lanie:). I tend to stick to the UF/PNR genres for the most part. I'm a reader and occasional reviewer. Thanks for the group invite, it's nice to see some familiar faces and meet some new people!
Welcome Rachel, R.C. and Lanie! Rachel, good luck with your manuscript! Your comment about short stories is interesting - we're going start a thread about that!
R.C. great question - we're going to start a discussion about this!
Lanie, as a reader and reviewer, we hope you can contribute your thoughts to the above discussions.
Thanks and looking forward to talking books and writing :)
