A.R. Davis The murder mystery part of this book is very realistic and could be the plot of many TV series or films. FBI International comes to mind. However, the brilliantly imagined setting is disturbingly hard to get a grasp of. It is as simple to describe as a Mobius strip, but blending it into the story left me confused. I learned to just go along with it. The deeper philosophical and symbolic aspects of the setting give the reader much to contemplate. I was particularly interested in this aspect of the book because my own current work, Tales From the Edge of Existence, has a similarly hypothetical setting. I hope I can approach Mieville’s mastery of the problem.
