I am reading ‘Beyond Words’. Though I have just started it is lovely. Thank you.
I am sorry to hear that Plus One passed away! He was such a good hunter, and the way you described his scenes with Alfie gave me such a feeling of connection between him and Alfie. I hope she finds that with her new mate. And congrats on rearing Alfie so that she could be successful as a wild bird. So nice for you that she is also able to keep her connection with you
I just finished your book which is wonderful. The best gift is being able to now read your update. Thank you for letting us know sadly about Plus One and Alfie’s success in raising 15 fledglings. You have given me joy and food for thought. It’s a very important book. We have lost our connection to nature at our peril but there is hope to be fond in spaces.
Carl, this book has had a profound affect on me. Thank you - so much - for writing it. I'm looking at the world with different eyes now. (And I agree with Joan - it's wonderful to see this update!)
I wrote to you on Instagram but probably the message didn't show. I try to copy it here: Hi, I'm an Italian law student but I've always been in love with animals and with studying their behavior and minds.
Recently I started reading a lot about these topics and I found your books, especially Beyond words and I loved it so much that I would like to thank you for your work and passion. I wrote this after discover that you use goodreads and find your comments. You reminded me of my grandpa. Your works managed to make me learn, reflect and cry at the same time
Sorry for my English
I don't even know if this is your personal account so.. yeah
Thanks for the update on Alfie. Remarkable story. I had a mountain chickadee that just flew to deck one day and became a friend. He would eat out of my hand, he would hide seeds in my pockets, shoes and sweaters. Such a sweet bird. He would follow me around in the yard. Gunnison, CO. For 7 years he came during the fall time. Sadly he did not return in 2022.
