If it had been the author's intent to show how superiority is wasted on the oppression of the weak, maybe it would have been good.
"I enjoyed Wild Seed and Mind of My Mind (books 1 & 2). Patternmaster is marginally better than Clay’s Ark."
Agreed with this ranking, chronologically this was a disappointing fizzle at the end of a series that started great, then plunged in quality after book 2.
But tbh I'm glad I read them in chronological order; there was a throwaway sentence in Patternmaster that completely spoils the amazing tension of Mind of My Mind. It would have been a bummer to go into that one knowing the outcome.

The edition I read had questions for reading groups. I would love to sit in on a reading group discussing all of this because there is much to say. I wish Butler had said it.
