Ella Lancaster I have been thinking about writing a book for a while. However, I am not too sure whether or not I should write one. I'm also kinda stuck between the genres romance and fantasy?

Ella Lancaster I have written a few excerpts but when it comes to starting a book, my head goes blank. Also, i showed some ideas to a classmate of mine and she straight up made fun of it for like 30 minutes so now I'm kinda insecure.

Hi, I've published 5 novels so I feel like I can speak to this. Yes, you should write it. Your mistake was showing it to someone who is obviously not a very nice person.

My head goes blank all the time. That doesn't mean you shouldn't keep going, it just means you don't know what happens in the story next. The trick is to know the main arcs of the story, and write to each arc as you go.

Writing a book is like crafting, just with words. You don't craft because you think it's going to make you friends or money or anything, right? You craft because it's fun and you like it. Think of writing like any other craft - the more you do it, the better you'll get, and just doing it is worthwhile. It will make you a better writer in general, it will give your brain something to do, it will make you more interesting as you do research on the craft of writing and also research on your book.

Don't let some classmate discourage you. You're living YOUR life, not hers. Never sacrifice yourself on the alter of other people's opinions. You don't want to grow old and think, wow, I really wanted to be a writer, but someone was mean to me so I stopped.

Write it. Rewrite it. Have fun. Delight yourself.

Feel free to reach out if you need help or encouragement.

Emma Skapetis Yes. I've been working on my own book for 9 years now (I still haven't finished it but I am determined to soon).

⋆.˚✦ Mia ✦˚.⋆ I think it’s so fun to have random ideas and put them together to create a story! You should definitely start!

I love taking aspects I like from my own life and other books/movies/tv/etc which can make the whole experience even more special.

Whenever I write, it always starts with a little scene or idea I think of and the rest comes from that. But I almost never finish the stories, unless I make them short stories.

I think writing is all about trial and error, and once you start, you shouldn’t give up! There will be roadblocks and times when you want to give up, but new ideas will always come.

9 YEARS? Now you're my new inspiration. My resilience or dedication would be nothing compared to yours. (sending you good luck for your writing)

ROMANTASY? I ACTUALLY DID WRITE AN EXCERPT but I feel like it's already there. Like a villian in love put together with betrayal and a plethora of efforts?

message 13: by Ella (new)

Ella Lancaster Kat wrote: "Why not?"

Well, considering the diversity of reasons:
1. Brain freeze when you actually sit to write
2. Not knowing where to begin
3. Already insecure because of certain people's review
4. The WHAT IF IT'S NOT GOOD feeling?

Hannah Rogers I don't know if anyone would be interested in checking it out but I have a book I'm writing on Inkspired. It's called Villain Academy By Hannah Rogers. I would love anyones feedback if you decide to check it out.

message 18: by Stella (new)

Stella Try writing a story about one of your dreams/ daydreams that you like. That's what I've done and I've fallen in love with some of the short stories I've come up with. I've even rewritten the ending to City of Heavenly Fire from the Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare (strongly suggest to people who love romance, fantasy, drama, and vampires and werewolves and all those creatures) since I fell in love with that series so much and couldn't let the characters go.

For me, it's kind of what I'm feeling at the moment. And more often than normal, i encounter writing blocks when trying to begin with the first sentence. Any tips?

Sidenote: i would love to read your short stories (if permitted, obviously)

paula kenneth Yess!! Writing your own book is one of the best feelings and most unique experiences I've ever experienced in my life!! Romance is beautiful but with fantasy, you can create your own world from the start!! Think about that when you choose a genre!!

message 35: by paula (new)

paula kenneth Also, good luck I will always believe in you!!! Your book will be great i just know it!! Don't give up bb!!

message 36: by Mariana (new)

Mariana I've always wanted to write my own book. I've been writing my own scripts since I was in high school, but I've never finished anything. I think it would be easiest to create a "skeleton" of the main plot of your book and step by step adding with whatever comes to your mind. In the end, you'll easily wrap everything up into a meaningful whole. Dare to start and don't give up ✨️🩷

message 46: by Matilde (new)

Matilde Hi Ella, if you like the excerpts that you have, why don't you try to mix everything? Choose something that you want to talk about or you can be the girl and put the parts that you liked most in the excerpts.
I hope I helped and good luck.
