Johanna The new and improved General News topic. This is the place to share what's happening and what's on your mind. To quote Josh, these news are yours, mine, ours.

message 2: by Johanna (last edited Feb 27, 2016 06:25AM) (new)

Johanna I will be closing down the old General News topic for any new comments as soon as it will agree to respond to my commands... :-D

The old topic has served us well for almost six years and there's more than 35000 comments in it. It seems that due to the amount of comments it has started to act strange. So, that's why we're setting up this new, improved topic.

message 3: by HJ (new)

HJ Good idea, Johanna! (I didn't know there was anything which did not respond to your commands.)

LOL! I know. I'm quite perplexed myself! :-D

I'm counting on Calathea casting her spell on the old General News topic. I don't think the topic will dare to resist HER commands! :-)

Your wish should be its command ;-))

And thank you for your great work.

message 7: by Sara (new)

Sara I was going to say that I hope Josh will still be able to find us if we move to a new thread, but she always finds us!

message 8: by Sara (new)

Sara Thanks for setting up the new topic, Johanna :)

message 9: by Calathea (last edited Feb 27, 2016 11:00AM) (new)

Calathea Hey,
I sent a message to the helpdesk, asking for help with the General News topic. The note upon sending said it could take some days until a response. Keeping my fingers crossed! Maybe they can un-weird it again.

If any of you guys who can still post there could set up a note to please not post on the old topic anymore that would be awesome!
(Like Johanna I can't close topic, just getting an error message.)

Meanwhile, the TMM launch party by the pool is going on. I heard there is a fresh batch of Margaritas on the way... ;-)

Yes! And if you guys could include the link to this new General News topic to your post there that would be great!

message 13: by Anne (new)

Anne I posted, but didn't include a link :(

* whispers shamefacedly; I'm not sure how I do that*

message 14: by Johanna (new)

Johanna And oh yes, our The Mermaid Murders launch party is in full swing — and in full splash! :-D

Join us here to celebrate the book that will steal your heart! And that's a promise. :-)

Alison What a nice and shiny new topic this is! First page! :)

I was going to comment on a couple of things in the other topic, but I'll do that here instead:

1. Ije, many congratulations on your new job. All the best to you as you begin a new adventure. :)

2. I'm sad about Samhain closing down. They put out good books and I buy from them often. It's such a shame. :(

Ije the Devourer of Books Thank you xxx

Thank you for bringing these news here from the old topic, Alison.

Ije — Your new job sounds so promising and challenging! You can be sure there's a joyful group of Fanyons rooting for you this upcoming week. Can't wait to hear you report back to us about this. :-)

And about Samhain closing down — that's so sad news. :-(

message 22: by Mtsnow13 (new)

Mtsnow13 The Samhain closing has me confused, as someone posted on another thread referencing a Samhain Blackout and a blog post from last November. http://www.briankeene.com/2015/11/05/...

Do you think it's a cause and effect? That this going on with the horror genre could effect the whole publishing house of Samhain?

Johanna Can you tell that I'm impatiently looking forward to discussing The Mermaid Murders with you guys? Here's the link to our March 2016 Book of the Month discussion on The Mermaid Murders. :-)

Be aware though — there ***WILL BE SPOILERS*** in that topic! Especially after the official release date March 1st.

Antonella Hi, folks!

I’m so freaking relieved! Swiss voters rejected with a 59% majority a rigth-wing initiative to automatically expel foreigners guilty of two misdemeanours usually punishable with fines or short prison sentences. Till a month ago it seemed that this initiative would pass, but then there was an incredible mobilisation in the civil society. Further: the road to equality marriage remains unencumbered because the definition of marriage as «union of man and woman» wasn’t added to the Constitution. That was a narrower win though, 51% to 49%. Given these two major civil rights victories, I can survive with the defeat for the environment which is another road tunnel through the Gottard. Also my personal result as a candidate for the Green Party in the Cantonal elections was good ;-).

Good news! :)

Antonella, did you win an election? If so, many congratulations. Tell us more! I must have missed you were on the campaign trail. It sounds exciting, in any case. :) Is this the first step in your plan for world domination? ;)

message 30: by Antonella (new)

Antonella Alison wrote: "Antonella, did you win an election?"

LOL! No, but I had a good result. That is I didn't get only the votes of people voting for the Green Party, but people voting for other parties put me on their lists.

Thank goodness! The votes were so close that it's clear that campaigners were important, so I think it's appropriate to congratulate and thank you (for this and for all your hard work).

Thank you, all!

There was a big collective effort, because till a while ago it was clear from the surveys that we would be on the losing side for both initiatives, and losing big, not only for some points.
