Dear Alan, I would have sent this privately, but I don't see an option for this unfortunately on Goodreads. Thank you for taking the time to read A High-Performing Mind. Your words about having recently being diagnosed with Parkinson's touched me, I am sorry to hear this. I wanted to pass on that a friend of mine has Parkinson's as well, so I can appreciate how difficult this news must be for you and also that it could be frightening to think about what the future might hold for you. I truly hope that you will be able to take advantage of some of the mental tools and thinking processes in A High-Performing Mind to help you through any future challenges that come along. Staying present and focusing on what you are doing in the here and now as much as possible and on what you can do to improve your circumstances comes to mind as two things that could be helpful. Chapter 9 might also be helpful to you as well to remind you to keep your mind focused on the positive actions you can take rather than dwelling on any negative and disconcerting thoughts that might come up about the future. I wanted to pass on as well that we don't have to look far to see some inspiring examples of how to live with Parkinson's. Michael J Fox is certainly someone who comes to mind as is my friend. Like Michael she has decided to work every day on her body and to focus on what she can do to improve herself and her situation instead of what she can't do. She is an active and involved member of the community and gives back with her life experience and unique life perspective. She also takes special boxing classes for people with Parkinson's that are shown to be very helpful in keeping Parkinson's symptoms at bay for as long as possible. Another friend of mine actually teaches the class in our area. If you do a quick internet search for "Boxing for Parkinson's" it will come up and hopefully you will be able to find a class nearby. None of the people in the class I observed had boxing experience but they seemed to enjoy the classes immensely. It was also an opportunity to be with others going through similar circumstances. I just wanted to share this in case you were interested, perhaps this could be something positive for you as well. Wishing you all the best on your journey ahead! - Andrew D Thompson
