The last chapter lol
Somehow this one sentence review is enough to sum up my feelings for the whole book 😆
Perfect summary of the entire 452 page slog fest!

I just finished this last chapter it went for such a long time
Totally, and that's what made this book a turkey for me. So much left unresolved and so many forgettable characters. I enjoyed a lot about it but also felt it was far too long and a chore to finish.
Hahaha. So true. The over-description of all the food was just too much for me. I can’t believe I finally finished it. I feel like I ran a mental marathon!
And it’s a metaphor for the painstaking efforts people put into food to show care for the people around them. The slowness of it, matches the slowness of the process. It’s not a quick fix.
Also the more I think about it, the turkey is american and shows her willingness to break from traditional Japanese culture to find herself. Then she decided to incorporate Japanese things in the reheating of the turkey showing she is willing to keep parts of Japanese culture.
All the food was a metaphor that required contemplation. If you’re just reading to consume and not to understand and think, then I guess I can see how she was just “cooking a turkey”
Last I just realized, the Turkey shows Rika doing what Kaji cannot and that’s bringing many people together through food. Kaji never brought the cooking class women together for a meal showing her inability to build real community, while Rika succeeded :)
Thanks for posting this review. It made me really see how beautiful this story was and how the metaphors were so deeply ingrained throughout the story.
And the curtains were just blue, right?
I was in disbelief when it ended and we had more closure about the turkey than the actual murder cases.
Yes , I just skimmed through out last chapter. Also I wanted to know more about that upcoming autobiography and where life took them both women ( Rika & Kaji).
