Chauna-lea Tricia Mikien Hi!

I'm new to Goodreads. I'm an author that's looking to engage in conversation and make new friends with other readers & writers.

Nice to meet everyone!

Thank you! I'm not reading a book right now. I just finished writing my own book some months back and am currently self-editing it. What about yourself?

Lulu Oh that’s awesome! Do you mind sharing what it’s about?

I just started “The Other Einstein” by Marie Benedict.

Sounds cool. Sure. Let me go ahead and copy and paste this brief plot/themes here: It would be professionally edited soon and I would be self-publishing it next year.

It's about 116,000 words. Also, I have a business plan to adapt this story into a film someday. Here is some info about the story.

It's a pro-black love story. There's drama, politics, empowering & sexy dark-skinned black women & men. Strong black female/male leads. Gems are dropped throughout the story.

A multigenerational tale between two families that are adamant against their children getting romantically involved. The story deals with many important social issues. It's unapologetically black & it has many triggers.

A wealthy/powerful black politician's son is accused of rape by his girlfriend. He goes out of his way to protect his son & his family's reputation.

The Summerville family has spent decades building their dynasty. They are the richest black family & the third richest family in the world. They are on the verge of creating black wall streets around the globe & helping the black community make the greatest comeback in the history of mankind.

Senator Summerville is the CEO of a very successful pro-black organization (very reminiscent of what a modern-day Black Panthers would have been) that has united blacks around the globe and staged a permanent boycott in order to keep the black community's trillion-dollar net worth flourishing in their own communities.

The Summervilles are assertive & brilliant and they plan to keep their powerful status in society come hell or high water and if anybody dares step into their path, they would be put in their place.

I've already sent out the draft to some beta readers. I can't wait to publish this next year!

Chauna-lea Tricia Mikien Still looking for active members to converse with Lol

message 10: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie A-M Sis, YOU may have to be the active member to get the ball rolling LOL. But I'm here and I am clicking the "notify" button so I know if and when anyone drops a line.

What's your first read for 2022? I started The Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams the other day so I am guessing that will be the first book I finish this year; although I have been on page 153 of Libertie by Kaitlyn Greenidge for months so it's a toss up but both should be done in the next 5-10 days or so.

Hi,

I am an active member. I'm looking for other active members to join me Lol. I'm on Goodreads every day.

I'm interacting with other members in various groups. I recently became a moderator of my own group & reached out to others on Goodreads.

I just enjoy talking about books, writing, & positive topics regarding the literary community.

I'm not reading a book right now because I'm busy self-editing my own. I'll probably pick up a book sometime this year .

What other groups are you in?
I feel like I read something where you were looking for beta readers? How is that process going?

message 14: by Chauna-lea (new)

Chauna-lea Tricia Mikien I'm in a few groups such as Black Girls Read, Mocha Girls Read, Oprah Book Club, my own group--
Black Authors/Books for the Culture, etc. Yes, I am looking for beta readers. That process is going well. I've heard back from a few readers that enjoyed reading my book. What groups are you in?

message 15: by Mike (new)

Mike Weedall As a writer who just joined, it's been helpful to read this thread. For the book club I belong to, Medgar & Myrlie by Joy Reid. I've read a bunch about the campaigns for voting rights in the South, but getting a close-up account of the courage of these two people in the face of imminent violence was sobering. I highly recommend the book, but be aware of the graphic reminders of what those brave leaders experienced.

Welcome to the group. I'm fairly active on the site, if active means 3 days a week. But I am happy to share writing experiences or books I'm reading. Good luck on the editing. I just received the final marked up copy of my manuscript yesterday. Spent 5 hours answering notes last night. It's been a crazy journey, these rounds of editing (Editorial assessment, developmental edit, line edit, copyedit, and now proofreading). That said, I think the processes have elevated my story, so happy I bit the bullets and trusted the process.
