Violet Reigns I feel your pain from this review, Hank. But what do you think it needs to escape the cliche ridden themes of this genre and lift to readworthy?

Andrew Good question Ms. Reigns. I’ll be very interested in Hank’s answer.

Hank Well guys, I know that’s a harsh review. And I know there’s an audience for it. But for me, it’s basically that all his characters are so extreme and over the top that it defies believability. Yes, I know, it’s about fantasy and escape. But in my opinion there has to be some realism in order to be erotic. Otherwise it’s just repetitive porn. Also, none of his wives, husbands or bulls are even remotely likable therefore one can’t really connect with them. Ok, that’s the short of it. Thoughts??

Violet Reigns I haven’t read any of Peter Johnson’s books, so take my opinion with a grain of salt, and I know this type of humiliation and cuckoldry story is popular. I’ve avoided a lot of it, as the books I’ve read come across as steeped in cliché.

I guess that’s why many authors are writing more extreme versions to differentiate themselves so they aren’t delivering the same underlying plot with a different skin.

I agree that an author has to make their characters likeable, including the villains to some degree or another, especially when you’re pushing the limits of reality. As an enjoyer of despicable characters, I’m intrigued to read this book to find out if they are at least entertaining or engaging in their despicableness.

Andrew IMHO, there’s a difference between erotica and porn. The difference is in erotica there’s a real story with a s*xy overlay. In some cases, the story may be the evolution of the couple and their relationship, but that needs to be a compelling story. No matter how well written, if there’s no story and it’s just scene after scene, for me it’s porn, and I try to avoid it whenever I can. This series sounds more like porn than erotica.

To be clear, I haven’t read the series, but have read some of the samples. Based on Hank’s review, I think I’ll pass.
