Thanks, Paulette! Always appreciate your kind comments! ❤️

Jude St. Francis I liked her trilogy better

Priyanka Great review, Yun! My thoughts were similar on this book. I also thought the Reappearance of Rachel Price was quite abrupt. It wouldn’t hurt if the author resolved the mysteries at the 80% mark and left the rest to resolve her various plot threads.

Maureen Great review Yun, hope your next is a winner!

message 6: by Julie (new)

Julie Wow tremendous review, Yun. Reading like a YA mystery with sullen teen like behavior and scorn towards babies is not for me. I also appreciate having all my side mysteries wrapped up too, or I wonder why include them? I hope your next book is more adult and,ore complete 🥰🤗

Darla A brilliant review, Yun. I can understand your frustration. Glad you could enjoy some Nancy Drewish sleuthing along the way!

Thanks, Priyanka! Glad we felt similarly and it's not just me! I don't think I'll read Rachel Price at this point. 😕

Thanks, Darla! I definitely enjoyed the sleuthing, so not all was lost. :)

Nancy (Busy feeding 6 rescued baby bunnies) I like to solve mysteries, so I’ll take clues over crazy twists any day. Not that I’m a good detective, but I like to pretend I am. Another amazing review, Yun! ❤️

message 18: by Kat (new)

Kat Hmmm ... I'd find her disdain for animals and children off-putting as well. Terrific review, Yun! 💗

Jayme C (Brunetteslikebookstoo) I felt the same way when I read a good girls guide to murder – Nancy Drew, like. Not sure if I will get to this one or not, but I will be curious to see if I feel the same way about her new direction as you. Terrific review!

message 20: by Canadian Jen (new)

Canadian Jen Fair review, Yun. I’m not a YA fan to begin with but totally understand that this jump to adult isn’t always automatic. Hope your next one is awesome!!

message 21: by Debbie (new)

Debbie W. Great review, Yun! Your pros and cons for this "adult" mystery are quite convincing.

Thanks, Nancy! ❤️ Haha, I don't think I can be a real detective, but I sure like to pretend while I'm reading these.

message 27: by Julie (new)

Julie This certainly sounds very unusual!

Persephone's Pomegranate I really dislike it when grown-ups behave like teenagers in literature. I'm not sure why certain authors choose to write this way. Could it be that they themselves act like teenagers? This book feels like a collection of not-so-great elements. Another great review!

message 29: by Rosh (new)

Rosh Excellent review, Yun! I wish authors would stick to their core strengths. It's very tough to switch writing styles across target age groups, and writing for adults after writing for younger age groups is obviously challenging.

message 30: by Lisa (new)

Lisa B Fair review Yun hope you love your next book! 💚

message 31: by Jaidee (new)

Karen Excellent analysis review Yun. I love the way you breakdown everything so that we have a true sense of expectations. I have seen this happen with other authors trying to make the leap from YA to adult. And, not so successfully. Thank you for your honesty. ☺️

Thanks, Rosh! I wonder if there is some pressure from publishers to do this? But yeah, it must be a tough jump because it rarely seems successful.

message 43: by Srivalli (new)

Srivalli (Semi-Hiatus) Ah! This kinda thing happens when authors switch genres. The jump from YA to adult has to be definite enough for readers to see the characters as adults. Except for ages, nothing seems to have changed here. I hope your next read is much better. Superb review, Yun! 💛

message 44: by Thibault (new)

Thibault Busschots At least the mystery was done right. Seems like the writing style and the main character still felt a bit too YA, but I’m sure this well get better as the author writes more adult stories. Good review, Yun.

message 45: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Rankin Very detailed review, I love it! I also enjoy a good mystery and like trying to figure out the case as I'm going along.

message 46: by MarilynW (new)

MarilynW I read the first two books in the A Good Girl's Guide to Murder series and I just could not handle the mentions of the MC's dog throughout the series so I quit after the first two books since I knew there would be more in the third. Thanks for this review which shows me I'm glad glad to have passed on this book.

Thanks, Srivalli! For sure. Hopefully as the author gets more comfortable with writing adult, her style will start to match what she's trying to achieve.
