I politely disagree, I feel like the author took the time to describe the characters in detail which had me feel more connected to them, and I didn't get any indication of objectifying women (as a woman myself), I got the feeling that the main character was simply smitten with his new paramour. Great read, lots of twists.

Regarding the first chapter, that was added at the suggestion of an editor who thought I needed to give Paul some challenges, which included a stalled career (his writing no longer meant anything to him), as well as his somewhat troubled marriage. The end of the book concludes with him telling Levi's story, and this gives his writing meaning, so there a resolution to a beginning problem. As for objectifying women, that certainly wasn't my intention. I did try to show misguided it can be when people get pulled in by “good looks.” That applies not only to Rebecca but also to Tony, the handsome Italian who was so flawed.
Having said that, I know every reader experiences a book differently, and I’m grateful you gave mine a chance. And I wish I could use you as a beta reader for the next one. I would be hoping for a more enjoyable read for you.
