11/22/63 TV (mini) series > Likes and Comments
I have just read this news and currently reading the book :)so excited even though I don't whether the book will please me or not
Jonathan Demme was set to direct an adaptation of 11/22/63 and was working on a script, but he and King had different ideas about what should be the focus of the movie, what should be left in and what should be left out, and he bowed out.Demme Bows Out
The great artwork on this link is by Vincent Chong and was on the cover of the Polish paperback edition (no HC was issued). That was my favoritte art of all the 11/22/63 covers.
You're welcome. I would have loved to see Demmes's vision also, what makes for good reading does not always make for a good movie--my guess is Demme wanted to play up the JFK angle and donwnplay the romance side. But, we'll never know.
I really like Demme too. But with out the romance part of the story I don't think I would've like the book as much as I did.
As it turns out I think 11/22/63 is rivaling The Stand for my top 3 spot.
And King knows that was the best part of the book, that's why I think that's what the split was over.
It really is the most important part. All this talking about it makes me want to dive in to a re-read. Or maybe I'll use one of my credits over at Audible
It is THE most important part of the book. But when the book was announced in 2009, it was as an attempt to stop the JFK assasination thriller. That still disappoints me.
Right?! I didn't have an interest in it at first. Then a friend of mine was reading it and he called me and said the words Derry and Richie and Beverly. I had a geek out moment and immediately added it to my Kindle.
I am glad it won't be made into a movie, but instead is being discussed being turned into a mini-series. I think if it was made into a movie, a lot of important parts of the story would have to be cut out. I think for time's sake, they would have to cut out most of the romance, and focus only on the stopping of the assassination and the events which only related to that. The only thing I worry about if it was turned into a miniseries, is for those who haven't read the book, and depending on how long the miniseries is, some of the slower parts of the story might turn watchers off. Maybe....maybe not.
I personally always seem to be disappointed by books I have read and enjoyed being made into movies. I always seem to watch them ever hoping for a different outcome but it always ends the same.
I'm the exact opposite. I love it when a book in turned into a movie. I know that there will be changes so I don't go into a movie expecting a play by play. But I love film just as much as I love the written word. So I enjoy seeing different people's visions on a story that I've enjoyed.
Karenlogue wrote: "...So I enjoy seeing different people's visions on a story that I've enjoyed."Same here. Thats why I enjoyed the movies The Shining and Cujo. And what Darabont did to The Shawshank Redemption was miraculous!
I really think that The Green Mile was the best of the movies. I remember seeing Armageddon with my mother and I had just finished reading The Green Mile. As soon Michael Clarke Duncan appeared on the screen I whispered to my mother about how he is John Coffey. He has to be. So then about a year later when I saw a trailer for the movie I geeked out.
MCD made that movie and if anyone else would have portrayed Coffey it wouldn't have been the same. But really, can you think of a better actor?
Sorry. When it comes to that book and movie I become very passionate. Green Mile is my #2 King book. Second only to IT which holds a special place in my heart because it was my first adventure into Uncle Steve's realities.
Karenlogue wrote: "Sorry. When it comes to that book and movie I become very passionate."Don't apologize. Anybody whose read my comments on Good Reads knows that I get passionate about the things I like...and don't like in King's works and movies. For me, The Green Mile is a well-made, fathful adaption of the serial books. That makes it a very good movie. Just not a great one.

I'm not sure how I feel about this, actually..
I'm not a JJ Abrams fan. He has a bad habit of using the white light reflection in his movies as an effect. I found Star Trek unwatchable because I found myself wanting to view nearly every scene in the film from a different angle. Every time his camera moved, I had to shade my eyes. He has always used that technique in all of his films to varying degrees and it's particularly annoying to me. It seems to be a training bra technique taught in film school that he never gave up for a better one.Bad Robot has put out some good stuff, but the ones Abrams directs are not my favorites.
I won't hold my breath for it.

Maybe I'm just partial to little creatures moving across my TV screen. I love that red thing just as much as my GrrArgh finger monster. I loved Star Trek. And going to see the movies was something that I enjoyed doing with my father while I was growing up. And Lost consumed 6 years of my life.
You know.. I love what Bad robot has put out. So I am hoping for something good to come out of this. Though honestly I think this is going to be a hard novel to make a movie so I am glad it will be a mini-series. Though hopefully not Bag of Bones crap mini-series.
In terms of casting Jake, I think either Matthew Rhys or Jim True Frost would be pretty good choices. Maybe Guy Pierce if they wanted someone with a high profile.
Igor...completely agree...never watched it when it was on..and then it appeared on demand...watched the whole series in two weeks...was addicted. I know people thought it lost momentum, but watching it straight through...i didnt mind the story straying here and there.
also...if they screw with thos one like Under the Dome...Im giving up on King series/movies...at least until the next one comes out.
Scott, that is what my husband and I did with LOST. I had started watching it on cable, but when I started college, I didn't have time. I actually found it was better to watch it episode after episode, instead of waiting a week for a new episode.
I really hope it's a mini series. And hoping the script holds true to the book. The book was incredible I just want the filmmakers to get it right.
Erin wrote: "I would definitely check this out. Not sure who I would want in the cast, though."In the audio book the guy doing the narration is basically channeling Albert Brooks. I know he's too old, but it makes you think that a comic could do the part... maybe Seth Rogan going for an oscar in a dramatic role.
I pictured Jake as Hamish Linklater, maybe for his scholarly looks.
Looks like Hulu picked this up! I have Amazon Prime TV and Netflix but not Hulu. http://insidetv.ew.com/2014/09/22/ste...
I'm getting excited... though I'll have to wait till it's on video:http://www.flickeringmyth.com/2015/06...

Ticks me off, too. A person has to have Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu in order to watch everything. Streaming is supposed to save people money but it's starting to cost more.

Yeah I hate to have to buy a service just to watch one show. I haven't gotten into a situation yet where a show I liked was canceled and picked up by a service. I don't know what I would if that happened.
That has happened with Longmire but I do at least get Netflix. At least a show that I loved will be somewhere that I can catch it.
Y'all realize you can get a free trial membership to watch it on Hulu, right? And even if you already used yours up you can always cancel a subscription after watching 11/22/63... It's nine bucks.
Matt wrote: "Do we have any idea of the time frame this should be coming out?"I checked Hulu's blog and they don't have any updates aside from the fact that they green lit the show.

For me, I really don't have much interest in watching shows/movies online.

Bad Robot was also involved in the production of Lost, Fringe, Alias and Person of Interest (among others), so I think we can expect a very professional production if the negotiations bears fruit.
Who would you like to see on the cast?
I'd love to see Robert Knepper as Lee Harvey (disregarding actual likeness). As Jake I have several options that I find it hard to limit to even a top three ^^
Thoughts?
