JanB YES! The male bashing and religious bigotry was just awful! I'm glad I'm not alone. We completely agree. Thanks for a terrific review that mirrors my own thoughts!

Minja Oh man, I couldn't agree with you more here. I am currently trying to get through this one as it was an arc gifted to me by netgalley and my oh my I am having such a hard time finishing it. I fully agree that this book just seems so over the top with the characters. Everyone apparently is just a super shitty, horrible person except for the main characters. I feel like the author was just trying to jump on this recent "male toxicity" train and ride it all the way through. It is really hard to read and honestly quite sad. I am quite shocked to see how many positive reviews this book is getting.

Keely Agreed!

message 4: by Martish (new)

Martish Not an outlier! One of the worst books I’ve read in a long time.

message 5: by Amy (new)

Amy I hated this book!!!! I agree with everything you said. The stereotypes were way over the top! All men are evil and all people of faith are monsters. *Insert eye roll

message 6: by Susan (new)

Susan The odds that both Elizabeth and Calvin had such awful childhoods was preposterous. Elizabeth is supposed to be smart but returns to Hastings expecting it to have changed. Please.

message 7: by Enas (new)

Enas Wilker Completely agree with you

✭ava✭ oops

message 9: by Aria (new)

Aria Yes, I completely agree. I've probably never in my life been as disappointed in a book as this one. It's exactly as you said, hateful and intolerant and downright vicious against anyone with a faith - who are apparently monsters, abusers or just 100% stupid.

Rana Adham It put me in a terrible mood as well. Agreed.
