This, exactly. Do First Law. You won't be disappointed. I have read every single other book he's written multiple times, even the Shattered Sea trilogy. This thing was so shallow and awful. I'm shocked it has so many good reviews.
I respect your review... but you should definitely give The First Law books a chance. I have read all of his books, and yes, the Devils is a downgrade compared to them. I personally enjoyed the Devils, but I'd still say the only good thing it has over the first law books is his prose, and not by a long shot.
You are hitting the nail on the head here for me.....I'm 200 pages in and I am close to giving up and I usually dont do that. I will probably fight through it....I was so looking forward to this book too.
I agree with this review. I recommend Red Country. In my opinion that is Joe's best work and it's a standalone that doesn't upset any chronology of other books.
100% agree. I am so disappointed. I abandoned the audiobook 8 hours in because it’s that boring and disappointing. I thought for sure I would love it.

First Law is definitely still worth reading. (Might go back soon myself).
