Oh, poo.
The author clearly has an exceptional sense of her own self importance. As a science educator, I found much of it insulting. Most adults and even school children know what a seed is, how we use wood, etc. Her writing in those parts seemed like it was written for a kindergartner. She’s overly descriptive at times to the point of misrepresentation. For example, southern Minnesota isn’t under snow for nine months of the year. The word hubris doesnt sppear to be in her vocabulary.

It has been years since I read this now, but I largely agree with you. I love science and this just wasn't fun at all.
