Hello! I may be late with the response here but just so you know, Junji Ito tends to do adaptations, this isn’t his story. Similar to his Frankenstein manga, this manga was based on a novel written in the 1940’s by a Japanese writer. These aren’t Junji Itos views on women he is adapting a very well known and prominent Japanese work of literature. Hope this helps!
Hi Sabrina, I’m completely aware of that. In adaptations you don’t have to follow everything according to the original work. Ito makes quite a few changes to the source material in this manga, actually. What he doesn’t change is the raging sexism, and he actually amps it up in places. Hope this helps!
