Lisajoy Thank you so much for your honest review — and for taking the time to read my book. You’ve raised some very thoughtful questions. It can be difficult to fully understand, but during that era and within that culture, arranged marriages were a common reality.

The Romanian government at the time did not recognize Jews as citizens, and families like the Finkelthals had very limited options or means to relocate safely. I realize I may not have made that entirely clear in the story.

That’s why Jetti’s decision to marry Berta to Solomon represents such a profound sacrifice — an act of love and survival more than choice. In Book Two, I’ll share what happens to Rivka and Kurti, and the story will continue to unfold across the following books. I truly appreciate your feedback and hope you’ll consider giving the next installment a try.

Sally Oh wow, thank you for the explanation! I read a lot of historical books in order to try and understand but clearly there are still big gaps in my knowledge! (I’m a young person in Australia with no ancestral ties to continental Europe too)

I’m definitely going to read on :) I was very fond of Rivka so I am keen to see her and Kurti’s paths.
