Danielle Cress I’m here today to ask everyone for some serious help! There’s this family in Texas going through some seriously sad and frankly, sick circumstances right now and they need our help. It’s about a boy named James whose mom is trying to force him to be a girl! His dad is Christian and fully against it, but he doesn’t have the financial support needed to fight this. If the court rules in his wife’s favor, James’ dad will be forced to pay for the surgery or face jail time while losing his parental rights. For the full story, please see this website: https://savejames.com

Please check out my latest post for more ways you can help: https://trulyinspiredbooks.wordpress.... Please reblog this post, sign the petition, and pray at the very least! Thank you!

James Sanderson Virtually everything we read about the future in fiction is dystopian. The early church lived in difficult and desperate times, and yet their response was to love, to forgive, to stand up and die for their belief if necessary.

In my view, Christians do not live in an uncertain time, facing a stark vision of the future. We live in the present time of opportunity to live our faith, facing a future time when, no matter what may be demanded of us, we will be the light and hope for the world.

My writing reflects that view.

James Sanderson Having come from a violent background myself, (Army Infantry), I know why people think I am weird or crazy for following the way of nonviolence. Yet, having that background gives me a unique voice in arguing the case for nonviolence. That is, if it was a way that does not work, why would I choose it? The fact is, it 'is' a way that works. It answers the basic dilemma of Christian life: "How do we fight evil without becoming evil ourselves?" This is it:

If, after our disagreement, everyone is left alive, we still have time to work out the differences that exist between us. Violence does not always leave us that option.

LEARNING IN THE INFANTRY: Of course in the infantry we learn what most of us believe to be our most natural instinct - to kill an enemy. Infantry soldiers learn how to kill with bare hands, with knives, with bayonets, with rifles, with grenades, with mortars (I was a mortar infantryman), they can call in air strikes, helicopter gun ships, tanks, and so on. You would think, after all that training, that I might have a permanent pre-selection of that choice. And it is true, I do. I have the training to do many of the things I am now choosing not to do.

BUT I HAVE TRAINED MYSELF: Once I realized that God does not call us to kill our enemies, but in fact to love them, I was forced to find another way. Unfortunately there is not a 'boot camp' for nonviolence. I had to train myself over many years to turn the other cheek, to remain patient and kind and gentle and exercising self control, and to show love, and to live at peace, and to be good in trying situations. (See the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23)

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: A friend told me his daughter was being bullied on the school playground. The teachers were ignoring the situation. He was going to tell her to kick them in the shins but knew my stance of nonviolence. After some reflection I asked him to try another method: Send his daughter to school with a police whistle. Whenever the bullies approached, she blew the whistle. No one could ignore that. It worked like a charm.

I have many such examples from nearly thirty years of experience in following the way of Christian nonviolence. I'll share them as time goes along.

Perhaps we all could embrace the way of Christian nonviolence.

James Sanderson DARKNESS OF THE HEART:

How do ordinary citizens know when the nation in which they reside is headed into darkness? Joseph Conrad's 'Heart of Darkness' does not lend itself directly to such a question, of course, - it is concerned with the individual human - Kurtz. But there is the notion that, "All Europe contributed to the making of Kurtz." Kurtz, of course, is the central character, the monster, at the center of this work. He is the one who, "lacked restraint in the gratification of his various lusts..." The one who cried out twice with his last breath, "The horror! The horror!" So at very least we are forced to question as individuals: "will we, if left unchecked, bend toward horror in every instance?"

James Sanderson When did I first encounter 'To Kill a Mockingbird'? I have often allowed the destinies of books to guide me, not my own destiny. By that I mean that when a book presents itself to me, I will undertake the reading and study of it. Who knows how the young people of today are going to be initiated into the mysteries of the destiny of books? Some will be, I suppose, and some won't. As it happens, I encountered 'Mockingbird' again with the release of 'Go Set a Watchman', also by author Harper Lee. http://jamesdsanderson.blogspot.com

James Sanderson Many seem to think they will be able to go through life completely on their own. In the novel 'Those Who Dwell Upon the Earth' it is necessary for a small Christian group to begin to act together in community. How will that be different? http://thosewhodwellupontheearth.blog...

James Sanderson You know how it is with an April day
When the sun is out and the wind is still,
You're one month on in the middle of May.
But if you so much as dare to speak,
A cloud comes over the sunlit arch,
A wind comes off a frozen peak,
And you're two months back in the middle of March.
-Robert Frost
