Eddiefrom Sumter SC and stayed here most of my life. I started comics when I was ten years of age and I have never stopped.I enjoyed most books but I seem to always want to go back to the DC world. I look forward to the group.
Justin From bright and sunny Florida.
Comics were big in my life because of my family, but really got into them a few years ago when i developed a form of income, I read mostly DC, but have started reading some others, but refuse Marvel due to a few reasons that are my own. I really am looking forward to another group that is active on here (most are not as some may have noticed).

Welcome, Eddie! I probably started about that age, too. Mostly with old JLA comics that I found at garage sales - though I did have an Incredible Hulk subscription for a year when I was a kid.
Glad you joined!

Hi, Justin - I started with mostly DC, but read a little of everything now when I get a chance...but Batman is still my favorite.
We're small now, but I just opened this book club up - I'm hoping we keep this starting momentum going and stay active.

Hey IM Zach from Colorado. Started comics when I was 5. Mom taught me to read with old batman comics. So of course batman is my favorite. I like DC vertigo and the DC universe the most but like all comics.
Welcome, Zach! I grew up on Batman, too - so he's by far my favorite.
But I like to dabble in a little of everything, too!
Hope you join in the discussions.
Hi! I'm Mike from South Bend, IN, but I'm originally from Milwaukee. I grew up reading my dad's comics from the 50s and 60s, and only fairly recently (last 5 years) started reading them again off and on. I joined here to get some new ideas for reading material. Like just about anything, but my favorites have to be Batman and Spiderman. Throw in graphic novels like Y: The Last Man, Watchmen, Marvel 1602, Fables, and Sandman.
Mike wrote: "Hi! I'm Mike from South Bend, IN, but I'm originally from Milwaukee..."Hi, Mike! I'm originally from Michigan (Detroit area) so not that far!
My favorite has always been Batman, but like you, I've gotten into a number of other things over the last several years.
I've always wanted to try Fables...it looked like an interesting take on fairy tales. I just read Marvel 1602 a few months ago, and I think I'm going to find some of the other ones soon (though since the first was written by Neil Gaiman, the others might not be as good).

Welcome, Ahmad! I'm excited that this club is international!
I'm a Batman, fan, too - but I love getting into other kinds of sequential art, and am looking forward to having discussions on different types of novels and non-fiction related to comics and superheroes.

Hey, Jim! I need your advice!
My name is Steven, hail from Phoenix Arizona (been here for 11 years), love comic books (been reading them since I was 5 years old). I mostly collect superhero titles (occassionaly dip my toe in other comic book genres). Have over 15,000 comics in my collection (and counting). Have a wonderful wife who appreciates my love of comics and we have a three year son who I am slowly exposing comic books too. Not sure if it will take though.
Glad to have you with us, Steven! I have a 6-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter who I've been sharing my love of comics and superheroes with since they've been small :) They both enjoy them in their own way. It's fun to show it to a new generation.
Hey there. I just came across this club and was happy to find myself amongst like minded people. My name is Derek, I'm pushing 40, and have been a superhero fan for most of my life. I cut my teeth on Flash, Green Lantern and Spider-Man, and am still a fan of those. These days I regularly keep up with Invincible, Superman, All-New X-Men, Superior Spider-Man, and am open to new superhero related titles.
I think 'Soon I Will Be Invincible' should be considered classic literature.
Welcome to the group, Derek! I've heard good things about Invincible, but have never actually read it.
Hey everybody! This seems to be a decent group. I'm Nithin and I live in India (South).I love comics and like the admin, the art in them too.Am a HUGE Batman fan, love the character very much.I think we should start a discussion why Batman has appealed to the different fans in this group.Looking forward to having healthy discussions and debates!
Welcome Don! Great idea - anything tangentially related to comics and superheroes would be appropriate. I'll start a discussion.
Hi, I'm Amanda and I'm a grad student at Penn State in American Studies. I'm writing my MA thesis about Lex Luthor--specifically, how "The Black Ring" is a Classical Greek tragedy in graphic novel form. (Yes, my undergrad degree is in English literature.) I'm currently scheduled to graduate in August.I also presented a paper on Superman's origin stories at the 2011 Mid-Atlantic Popular & American Culture Association conference in Philadelphia.
Hi new people...Amanda-many moons ago my last psych paper was on Bruce Wayne and how he stayed a 10 yoa mind set to keep other kids from losing their parents. Wrote 3 pages and scored a "B"
Eddie--one of the courses I was forced to take during undergrad was Medieval Brit Lit, and my final paper compared Beowulf and Grendel with Superman and Doomsday. :)
Yeah, he's the monster that killed Superman back in the early '90s. I think "The Death of Superman" trade is still commercially available.
Welcome to the group, Amanda! Very cool to have a comics scholar with us! :)I'll have to check out The Black Ring.
Thanks, Jim! I'm not sure I've ever been called a "comics scholar" before (and I'm certainly not in same league as Michael Chabon or Gerard Jones), but it has a nice ring to it. At school I'm known as more of a general pop-culture specialist--I write as much about television (specifically my favorite show, "Supernatural"--which, incidentally, has some pretty decent tie-in comics) as I do about comics. In fact, after admitting that I came to Superman comics because of the "Lois & Clark" series, which premiered when I was ten, and my heavy involvement in early "Smallville" fandom, the audience of the comics panel I was on nearly ran me out of the room. (Being the only girl in the room probably didn't help either, sadly...although I had an interesting discussion later with the man who presented a paper on the Jane Austen zombie novels to a room full of women.)
Hi guys, I'm David. I'm a college sophomore from Michigan and have recently (in the last year or so) gotten into reading comic books. I'm a big fan of Batman and Captain America. I am currently reading Batman, Deadpool, Uncanny Avengers, Star Wars, and Daredevil monthly.
Welcome, David! I'm from Michigan, too, and that's about the same time I got into comics. (Though I was a freshman at a school in Tennessee.) Someone gave me a copy of Arkham Asylum, and it went from there!
Jim, since we've talked about details of a couple different comic book movies in this thread already, would you be opposed to creating a thread specifically for comic book film adaptations?
Done! Here it is:
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
I created it in an "Other Media" folder, so we can create additional topics about movies, but also talk TV shows, video games, etc.
Hi! I'm new here :)My name is Lu and I'm getting back into comics again. Starting with the New 52 ones.
Glad to have you with us, Lu! And you bring up a good point! Since I dedicated this group to reading novels based on comics, and books about comics (and superheroes), I didn't think about including an area to discuss actual comics!
I've fixed that! You can see a new folder for Comic Book Discussions on the front page. Add your discussion for comic books and graphic novels here.
I've started a topic under it called "What Comics Are You Reading?"
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
Hey, I'm Mark Wilosn. I live in Edinburgh, Scotland. I've been reading comics/GN and other superhero books since I could read. Favourites include, GL, Batman, Flash, Superman, Wolverine. Favourite writers/artists include; Ennis, Miller, Millar, Johns, Aparo, Romano Jr, Brubaker, Ellis, Lapham. I could go on all day. I recently wrote my own Superhero novel.
The book's been out since February, Amanda. It's titled Naebody's Hero. What comics/GN are you into?
I'm a huge Superman/DCU fan and I'm writing my Master's thesis on Lex Luthor's character arc in Superman: The Black Ring. My favorite writers are Grant Morrison, Gail Simone, Alan Moore, John Byrne, Jeph Loeb, JMS, Mark Waid, and Geoff Johns (except for his take on Superboy-Prime--don't even get me started), and my favorite books are Watchmen, Kingdom Come, Superman: Secret Identity, Superman For All Seasons, Superman: Earth One, and Lex Luthor: Man of Steel.

I guess it makes sense for me to start.
I'm originally from Michigan, but I've lived in North Alabama for 15 years now.
I started this club because I love the art form of comic books and I love a well-told superhero story. There's always been something that I've been drawn to - I don't know if it's the larger than life characters, the wish-fulfillment of superpowers, or the idea of someone having the ability to right the wrongs of the world. Probably a bit of all three.
I thought it would be fun to meet other people who feel the same way, and read some books together. While I've always been a huge Batman fan, and tend toward DC, I love every aspect of the genre, and am really looking forward to hearing different perspectives, and reading different kinds of books.
