Hi Carolyn. I hope you find value in this one as much as I did. ☺️
Carolyn, this book is perfect for giving up perspective on who we are still privileged to have in our lives and the writing was indeed gorgeous. 48 years - awe inspiring.
Much and all as I admire this distinguished Aussie-American author, "Memorial Days" would be too difficult emotionally for me to read. However, several years ago I bought an audio copy Geraldine Brooks' book "Horse" from Audible and also a print copy for my horse-mad daughter, Penni. "Horse" is on my 2026 Reading Agenda🤩.
From the blurb: "Based on the remarkable true story of the record-breaking thoroughbred, Lexington, who became America’s greatest stud sire, "Horse" is a gripping, multi-layered reckoning with the legacy of enslavement and racism in America."
Thank you, Belle, Terence and Jen. I put off reading it for a long time, thinking I didn’t want to go there emotionally. But she made it worthwhile. To be honest, I liked it better than Horse, which had elements in the modern day storyline ending that annoyed me. I found myself wondering if Tony would have edited them out had he still been alive. So now I want to read something else from her back catalogue.
