I was also very late to this party, and only read it this past summer - I agree that it's really fun! And the nitty gritty of the process was really satisfying without bogging the story down.

No caveat. I bought this book with my very own money!
I will freely admit an odd thing about me. If I see too many reviews raving about how good a book or a movie is, at first I'll be eager to read it. But the more I hear about something, the more I think, well, maybe later.
I miss a lot of good stuff that way. Definitely so in this case.
Legends and Lattes is what we now call a 'cozy fantasy.' The reader enters the story knowing there will be no blood and gore, no harsh heartbreak. And some of us may wonder, "well, what's the fun in that?"
Let me assure you, the fun is here. And a lot of charm. Instead of 'cozy' I would call this a Charming Fantasy, if naming new slices of the genre were up to me.
Here is as close as I'll get to a spoiler and I know that everyone already knows this. An Orc decides to open a coffee shop in a ramshackle old building. That's enough for you to go on with.
Things I really appreciated. Good pacing. A complete story told in less than 300 pages. A knowledge of what it takes to get a small business off the ground. AND respect for how long and how difficult it may be to put on a roof or add a door. Very little hand-waving about 'She wanted a door and in a few hours, it was installed.' As a person who has had to deal with ramshackle old structures where nothing is square and 'look at the rot under the door sill!' I really enjoyed that aspect.
As we approach the holiday season (I'm writing this November 1) I would definitely agree this is a cozy fantasy to read at a time when those of us in the Northern Hemisphere might want to cozy up to the fireplace (or the heater vent) and relax with a very nice book.
