Aleksandr Skorobogatov Dear Ayesha,

This is the story of a victim of domestic violence — inflicted by a veteran of the Afghan war who suffers from PTSD. It reflects the fate of hundreds of thousands of Russian women — including my own mother, who was a victim of her alcohol-addicted husband, my father. I witnessed it with my own eyes. It became my own deepest pain.

The story hurt you, and you felt deep compassion for the female protagonist — and that is exactly what the book is about. About the tragic fate of countless women in the Soviet Union back then, and in today’s Russia.

Warm regard,
Aleksandr
