Jennifer Thank you for posting this. I am sorry you had to wade through this. Words of warning are always helpful and appreciated!

Todd Bumbarger Wow those are a lot more in depth than I would have imagined. I was thinking more along the lines of them trying to scam readers, not the authors themselves! Bastard take them all!

Mike These have been going out to authors of all levels lately, and some of them are almost good enough to pass the initial sniff test, until you think about the too-good-to-be-true of it for a bit (plus they are way too enthusiastic).

They are definitely scams, and if you take them up on it you are unlikely to get anything for your money, other than maybe an Amazon ban for review farming.

"Review farming" is a new term to me, but how apropos!

Not worthwhile for book sales anyway, as no one but the obsessed author ever reads more than the first screen or two of vendor page reviews when making a purchasing decision.

Hannes Lots of AI slop. Scammers have an even easier time auto-tailoring their approach to their target. Now they don't even have to write some fake address, they just tell their LLM to write it for them. I'm sorry that you're dealing with this.

I guess the Butlerian Jihad is closer at hand than we'd expect.

Grace Bridges One that I received was very similar to your example number 3, just tailored to my book. Ridiculously effusive and specific, and yet identical in structure.

A couple of times I've shot back that I'm personally offended by the feeding of my material to AI for the production of this slop, and how dare they imagine a writer couldn't tell the difference, etc.

It felt good and they left me alone, however replying is probably a waste of time. I might not even be reaching a human...

I can't wait for our era's pitiable version of AI to die a natural death. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to be financially sustainable.
