Lady Frances’ Children > Likes and Comments

I am rereading the Rannoch series and am currently on Midwinter Intrigue. Lady Frances mentions in the summer of ‘98 that Christopher was starting to walk. In a previous book, Cedric is mentioned. I know her daughters are Judith, Aline and Chloe, and it has been mentioned that she has five children. So who are Christopher and Cedric? How old are they? Are they true Dacre-Hammond? Are they married? Have children? Where are they? Just trying to get relationships right in my mind going forward.

Good question! I've been a bit vague about both to keep my option open for future books. Cedric is the eldest. He's 29 or 30 now (haven't worked which month he was born), married with young children, and mostly lives in the country. He's a bit stuffy and uncomfortable with his mother's scandals. Christopher is 24 or 25 now. In the early books he was at university.I think he's been spending a fair amount of time abroad since. Again, I'm keeping my options open, but I see him as much more happy-go-lucky than his brother. He and Judith were close growing up, quite carefree. We'll likely see both of the boys in future books.

Frances now has 7 children, including Francesca and Philip, her twins with Archie.

Thank you. That makes Cedric the only “legitimate” child. It might also be fun, to find out who fathered all the other children since, in The Duke’s Gambit, they are all speculating on whether Julian St. Juste is Giséle’s father. It’s a bit like a soap opera figuring out who is a half sibling to whom, what with all the musical bed partnering that went on.

As you can tell, as I am rereading I am paying closer attention to the familial details as they arise.

Love all these details you are catching and love talking about them! Yes, Cedric is the only one of the Dacre-Hammond kids whose biological father is George Dacre-Hammond. We learn, or have strong hints at least, about Aline's, Judith's, and Chloe's fathers in later books. We don't know Christopher's.
