Erin (Historical Fiction Reader) Why would a novel with a modern timeline set between Feb 26, 2018 and March 4, 2018 have any responsibility to discuss Weinstein? Feels odd to be upset that a novel set before his arrest (May 2018) and trial (Jan 2020) would reference events that haven't occurred in the timeline of the novel.

Adam Zorzi The point of the granddaughter's story is that misogyny still reigns in contemporary Hollywood. The author's timeline includes references to both Weinstein's allegations (2017) and Gerwig's failure to win an Oscar (2024) so SHE is the one with actions that don't fit your timeline. I'm not "upset," but I do find the comparison between the crime of rape and the fact of not winning an Oscar is a poor choice at best.

It seems you expected this novel to accomplish more than it was intended to. That's fine. I simply disagree with you, possibly because I approached it with a different mindset.

Adam Zorzi I didn't approach the book looking for anything other than a good story. While reading, I found the portion about the granddaughter to not be as well-written as the Hollywood blacklist story.
