False Front grabbed me from page one — the shift from the vibrant, sun-drenched reefs of Belize to the gritty underbelly of Houston made for a powerful contrast. The heroine, underwater investigator Chris Green, is compelling: her strength and vulnerability felt believable, and the fact that the story moves between vastly different settings gives a sense of urgency and unpredictability. I loved how the novel didn’t stick to one “type” of detective story — underwater mystery, urban crime, even psychological tension — but blended them all. By the time I reached the dark waters off Galveston Island, I was genuinely anxious for what might come next. False Front is a thrilling ride that respects its premise yet keeps you guessing.
